On page 10 of the review section of The Guardian today (Friday 4th April) is a nice article about Morrissey's upcoming remix album. It's also on the web:

Can this be true? Morrissey has mixed a compilation album - featuring the Ramones, Patti Smith... and Diana Dors. Alexis Petridis reports

Greetings Morrissey Fans, here is your chance to shine! Over the next month or two I will be shooting a short documentary film on real life Morrissey fans and would like to encourage all of you to participate. The film will be a bonus feature on the upcoming DVD release of MY LIFE WITH MORRISSEY, a fictional account of an obsessed Morrissey fan. I think it will be cool to have a documentary on real life Morrissey fans on the DVD as well. You can participate in a number of ways if you care to. We will be filming interviews at the upcoming screening at the Sonoma Valley Film Festival on April 11th, as well as at the Moz Convention on April 13th in Hollywood. We also encourage fans from around the world to contact us with your Morrissey related pictures and stories, and most importantly we ecourage fans to make a short video of themselves (5 minutes tops) telling their favorite Morrissey story, or why they are a fan, or what he means to you or even a personal message to the man himself, and send it in to us. We will use the best and brightest in the film! The film will be hosted by man about town Jay Tando so get those tapes in now!

Thanks in advance to all those who wish to participate. Please email for mailing instructions or visit http://www.mylifewithmorrissey.com/ for more details!

The Smiths 'How Soon Is Now' is voted # 18 in this month's (April 2003) Mojo Magagzine. The full article follows -

Sire boss Seymour Stein called it "the Stairway To Heaven of the 80's" which may well be on the money. Certaintly, it's expansive, ambitious - and, importantly, formed the musical backdrop to many a teenage night out. In that sense, it's a great Saturday night record - but only if you've endured the the kind of minor nightmare that was Morrissey's meat and drink: "There's a club if you'd like to go/ You could meet somebody who really loves you/ So you go and you stand on your own/ And you leave on your own/ and you go home, and you cry and you want to die." Lyrics apart, its most remarkable aspect is the musical backdrop created by Marr, Rourke and Joyce; the former's Bo Diddley-gone-sci-fi guitar part in particular. It was recorded under red light bulbs by minds taken to the next level by heavy weed intake - an unlikely example of Moz-assisted stoner rock. The B-Side is a falsetto-strewn ballad, bolstered by one illustration of Marr's grasp of jukebox aesthetics: the grafted on sound of a downpour, inspired by The Ronettes' Walking In The Rain.

Copeland writes:

In the Jeff Buckley biography "Deam Brother," there is a mention of Jeff's March 17, 1994 concert at the 50-seat coffeehouse called Bunjie's in London's Covent Garden district. Jeff was not yet the new MTV phenom that he would become a couple of months later. At Bunjie's, the book states: "As he walked into the space, Jeff passed white roses out to the audience. While doing so, he made a reference to a British pop legend that further endeared him to the crowd: 'You must think I'm Morrissey.'"

I already knew that Jeff was a fan of Morrissey due to bootlegs of Jeff's cover of "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side," as well as his cover of "I Know It's Over" on the "Mystery White Boy" album. But the one question I have about this anecdote is do most British music fans really think Morrissey is a "pop legend" as the book proposes? I had always heard differently.

It's sometimes hard to know if the club night your heading off to this weekend is a full on Smiths and Morrissey night or a so-called Smiths night that just plays "How Soon Is Now" and "This Charming Man".

Well soon you'll find it easy to know by checking out the Smiths Night Directory.

If you do a club night or know of any then let me know.

The directory should be up and running after Easter.

Check out www.panic-central.com and click on the directory link.
