Rather dull interview. Seemed like Fiona was more interested in giving him pretty empty praise and talking about the same old things.

The YT transcript function works for this video - hopefully better than auto-generated song credits eh!?
FWD.

I used to think Fiona was just a fan trying to get Morrissey's attention, but even I'm starting to think she is being paid to fight Morrissey's corner.

This interview has been released a fair bit of time after being recorded. It implies that Bonfire is coming soon (how soon is soon) and the singles will be picked by the record company. Everything said about Bonfire in this interview would imply that the February release is more or less on track.

(Has Fiona heard Bonfire?)

Yep! Agree with that entirely. The "interview" was hardly worth the trouble.

It was more of a squeal than a laugh & they edited it:

JL – So you’re just saying, like, everybody should stay where they are?

Morrissey – No! I don’t think that! You stay where you are? Stop it!

It's not controversial for places to retain an identity - it's why UNESCO has world heritage sites etc etc...

One look at this thread will tell you why he's nervous of any question - because his answer will be given the least charitable interpretation possible. It's been happening for decades so confirmation bias kicks in.

When the rich and the powerful want to retain their identity - it's 'heritage'.
When the working class want to retain their identity and their culture - it's 'racist'.

Watching the interview made my night - he looks and sounds gorgeous and well. I loved some of the comments "bake a cake" and "you won't see me golfing." As well as the other brilliant insights into the industry and "diversity."
I want more! haha

There's culture and then there's supremacy. Nothing concrete is discussed here. I'll leave it at that.

Except to say that "identities" (being British, American, what have you..) change and evolve constantly, as everything does...
Don't blame it on a poor immigrant, blame it on life itself

Life itself is the last thing anyone should blame for anything. It’s the one thing we all owe everything.

I miss the old "Mozzer charm" and the humour he had once, that was completely flat. Just a man sounding totally over-awed with himself and grinding the same axes. He looked bored.
Its till there. Just not in front of the media . I've had a drink with him before and I have met lots of his in crowd and its still there. Just not in front of the media
I was excited to watch the interview. He looks fantastic again. Better than he has looked for quite some time .He looks more like himself more now than at anytime in the last 10 to 15 years
I thought Sam did an ok job and I think Fiona did ok , as a Julia interviewer .
It was beyond fawning though he acts like he is the only " real" pop star the only one the people have chosen. Truth is Liam, the stone roses , suede , tom york , Robert smith are much more respected by the Brits these days
Its so fawning and creepy her questions were more statements about how great he is . Which is pointless. Myth making childish shit
It got better near the end but the whole "I'm never played on the radio" which is BS. I used to often hear his songs in the uk and I still do on American radio. I loved it when he got interviewed by fans with brains Sean Hughes or intelligent none fans. He lives in an echo chamber

One only need some awareness of the ongoing contempt for May Day, and it’s celebratory forms (often described as ‘racist’ by those who wish it banished), to recognise the verity of this.

We shouldn't be ashamed of concepts like national identity just because they were appropriated by bad people with bad ideas. They appropriated 'socialism' too but as a philosophy it's still one that is worthy of debate and has value.
I would never 'blame it' on a poor immigrant, as you say. Immigration is a good thing. So is supporting refugees. But is the cultural identity of Europe changing by gradual evolution or corporate design? The speed (and the numbers) by which it is happening is certainly unprecedented in terms of world history.

I adore Morrissey but I only had to watch 7 mins to see where things were going.
This Fiona character “ freelance journalist” when did she appear in the picture? Like 3 years ago?
A real journalist wouldn’t participate in such a limited and pre approved “ interview” .
Julia Riley would’ve probably done a better job and that’s a lot to say considering she wasn’t very objective but at least she had more imagination and knew the subject way better than Dodwell.
It pains me to see Moz repeating himself about how he’s not part of the industry and how he’s not included.
It pains me to see how much he wants to be included but continue whining.
It’s kinda cute how he’s almost begging for attention from all the mainstream but saying the contrary.
Morrissey’s best asset /personal trademark is his brain and wit and it’s wasted by a pseudo interviewer “ newby “.
And then having to read and see all the sycophants on Instagram and fb kissing ass on the interview it’s just embarrassing.
Very bad timing also to release this amidst his cancellations.

Though this was a very good interview and a nice surprise, I wish Morrissey would address us personally, like he has done in the past for Christmas or New Years. That would be so lovely. Just talk to us about what is on his mind.

Just want to correct something .
When I said I had a drink with him
I meant I was in a pub, he came in and we chatted . I have had a drink with Boz and know Jake and Linder to say hello to.

Exactly. You nailed it. He still wants to be pinned on every bedroom wall and can't understand the circumstances why this won't happen anytime soon.

Can I befriend you?

Corporate design or corporate bottom line? Lovely side effect of bombing the Middle East is that you get hundreds of thousands fleeing the squalor, desperate for work and safety at any price-- much lower price than most would accept. Anyone focusing on "culture war" is being misled-- we can argue back and forth about Morris dancers all day long while we all get robbed blind and the seas boil over ;)

I don't disagree with what you say. As the saying goes, follow the money...
