Any The Fall fans out there?

I have all the studio albums, a few compilations and an extensive collection of bootlegs.

The Fall are the only band I have ever seriously got into but it is very difficult to explain the appeal to someone who doesn't like them. I have tried to introduce a number of people to the Fall and have had a fairly mixed success rate.

I speak as someone who came to Morrissey quite late and I certainly think there is a big difference in the way that each artist communicates, although both are unique in their respective fields.

I love the mid 90s albums like middle class revolt etc...very Pavement like.

I got into the Fall via their 90's output. Albums like Code:selfish, Infotainment and Middle Class Revolt are detested by Fall purists but I think they are probably a lot more accessible than the early stuff.

I would also recommend The Unutterable.

I saw them last night in Leeds, I'm really not sure if it was good or bad...

LOL, it's a good sign that Mark E Smith still manages to confuse his audience. :D

i have seen them a few times , i always have the feeling i have watched something unfold in front of me rather than went to see a gig

Indeed, that pretty much sums it up.

I'vr counted about 14 of these alleged 50000 on here, including me (I haven't)and there are always a couple of hundred when I've seen them, as on Thursday.

Fall fans are normally male

Great f***ing band. I have about 15 of their records, 50,000 Fall Fans, and the brilliant 6-disc Peel box set (which I found online for free in one zip file, such a great find). The pre-show tape at a Moz show I went to on this most recent tour had "Lie Dream of a Casino" on it. They're certainly not for everyone; their discography is seemingly impenetrable (have patience; it's worth it). They are difficult to describe, and sometimes even more difficult to listen to. But I think Mark E. Smith is a genius.

its very easy to fade in & out of liking the fall. anything post heads will roll is useless to me, anyone else agree?

This is brilliant!

Quite enjoyed I've Been Duped and Wolf Kidult Man t'other night.

I'm Not From Bury could be a Fall classic.

But yes Heads Roll was probably the last consistent LP IMHO.
My favourite Fall period is the one that I was in my late teens for. Albums such as Extricate, Shiftwork, Code Selfish and Infotainment Scam. My introduction was purchasing the compilation A-sides.

Went a bit off them with Middle Class Revolt (I think they/him went a bit off themselves!) but saw them/ him and whoever else live (not his granny on bongos!) in 2001 I think and was blown away. In fact I've probably seeen them more live tsince then han I have listened to their recent LPs which is a bit weird!

Fav Fall LP/compilation has to be the 6CD Peel Sessions boxset. A vital piece of British history.
