Sorrow of Stamford Bridge

Guest
Morrissey, Sanctuary & K2 ought to take a leaf from Franz Ferdinand's well distributed choice of venues...

Belfast Ulster Hall (October 11)
Dublin Olympia (12-13)
Glasgow Barrowlands (15-16)
Wolverhampton Civic Hall (17)
Newcastle Northumbria University (19)
Exeter University (20)
Bradford St George's Hall (21)
Portsmouth Guildhall (23)
Leicester DeMontfort Hall (24)
Manchester Apollo (25)
London Brixton Academy (28-29)

You might have noticed I'm really angry at the recent "tour" announcement...

Are you a Morrissey fan? Do you want him to be just like everyone else?

Anyone who has been at Morrisseys more unusual choices of gigs over the last god knows how many years will tell you how fantastic they have been. Gigs like Motherwell, Hartlepool, Petaluma, Kalamazoo etc etc will live long in the memory of those who were there.

If you live in the South of England you've had 3 nights at the RFH and you've got Reading to look forward to. Add to that the possibility of more gigs later in the year, you have nothing to complain about

Newcastle to Exeter to Bradford on successive days? Good Lord.

Sk.

Well if you look at it it's actually a very good tour

...if a bit spread out...

MEN Arena, Manchester May 22
Dublin Casle, Jun 5
Royal Festival Hall, London, Jun 11, 25 & 26
Glastonbury Festival, Jun 27
Old Trafford, Manchester, Jul 11
Reading Festival, Aug 28
Leeds Festival, Aug 29
Corn Exchange, Edinburgh, Aug 31
Town Hall, Paisley, Sep 2
City Hall, Perth, Sep 3
Empress Ballroom, Blackpool, Sep 4
Spa, Bridlington, Sep 6

It's just a shame all the dates weren't announced at the same time. Had that happened, I think the only people moaning would've been people right on the south coast, the Welsh and the Northern Irish. Oh, and some Americans as well.

The Magical Mystery Tour That Is Paisley And Perth!

Blackpool is Blackpool and is in no way mysterious :p But this will be a giggle up in the Highlands i think, as long as i get there in so much as a robin reliant and come back to blackpool via ostrich or some other rushed form of transport to return, il be happy

Yes, I am a fan...and yes I'm probably greedy because I've already seen him twice this year (including the MEN).

As you will see from earlier post on the board, my point is that Morrissey - or rather his management - seem to be deliberately making it as hard as possible for people to see him play. Don't get me wrong, I do not want to see Morrissey at large arenas up and down the country. But bear in mind that the RFH had a capacity of about 2,500...bearing in mind that many will have gone to more than 1 of the Meltdown shows, it means that in reality less than 7,000 people saw him - less than half of the total capacity of the MEN.

Playing tiny venues only in the North (Blackpool aside which has a decent capacity) is effectively denying a lot of the UK fanbase a chance to see him. And is it too much to ask for dates to be announced in advance? Why play 5 nights in LA but not do the same in London where in reality Morrissey has a larger fanbase to tap into? And why completely ignore the rest of the South-East and South West?

I really, really hate sounding like a whinging yank, but the tour announcement has been a complete anti-climax.
