Striptease: Hazards View
I can hardly contain my admiration for Morrissey. Having been in the fortunate position today, in England, and holding the 60 seconds of Striptease... in my Cd tray - a song which for so long has been quoted by the music press as being a recording that somehow may see the light of day, but dissapointingly never has - I write with excitement at hearing this wonderful song.
Listening now, I find it best to look back to the time that Morrissey went into the Studio to record this song, to think about Morrissey's style and the style of his producers and band. The song, which on first listening has a striking resemblence (in the piano sections at least) to classic Madness chords, jumps along with style and quality. Morrissey's friend playing cards wondering does he really wants to lose again, or does he really want to win again. A shifty here
and there - a look over the shoulder - and my guess that there are probably a few cracked ribs too !
I am sure that fans on Moz-Sole also have there own views of this song. I just wanted to put down that this is a wonderful recording.
Throughout Morrissey's solo career I have been amazed at the
quality of Morrissey's work. From the frantic beginning - trying to build a career away from his own band - and now being able to sit back in comfort, knowing that he has achieved so much. As with my previous posts, I suggest Morrissey's unreleased tracks and b-sides are more than a match for any competition - thinking about it now, I really don't think that there is any competition left.
