Strange/unexpected Moz references?

Morrissey on the frontpage of Metro Curitiba - Brazil

Morrissey is on the frontpage of today's Metro from Curitiba.
Well, it's the same interview which was published but I think it's great to see him on the frontpage

You can see here

EDIT

I think this is not the right place for my post.
It's not a reference. It's an interview.

Today's BBC 6 Music Steve Lamacq had singer of Cockney Rejects who mentioned about Morrissey.

His slot was around 17:50 ( you can listen again from iPlayer 1:50).

Re: Strange / unexpected Morrissey references

I believe, though I'm not positive, that the newest single from The Killers, Miss Atomic Bomb contains a Morrissey homage in the chorus when Brandon Flowers sings, "You're gonna miss me when I'm gone" twice in, I think, a similar way to how Morrissey sang it in All You Need is Me. If it was from any other band, I might think it curious and then forget about it later, but we all know that The Killers are big Morrissey fans who have covered one of his songs in the past.

The reference happens, for the first time, at 1 min 22 seconds.

I'm planning on (finally) making a journey to Salford Lads Club this weekend as I'm in Manchester for a wedding. The fact I've had ample opportunity to do this over the last 8 years when I've ssen Morrissey play in Manchester is not lost on me, but I love Mancunian pubs!

So in finding out if/ when the Club will be open in case I do actually make it, I stumbled across this:

http://salfordladsclub.org.uk/2012/10/freddie-flintoff-cricketer-boxer-and-moz-fan/

Alas I can't upload the photo at the moment, computer says no

England and Lancashire cricket legend Freddie Flintoff visited the club today. He was interviewed in the clubs boxing gym for ITV Granada Reports and News at Ten, to promote his forthcoming boxing debut at the Manchester Arena in November. On a tour of the club he also showed his interest in Manchester Music and turns out to be a Morrissey fan.

He even has a little Moz quiff going on. Now I like Freddie Flintoff a lot but I think its stretching the boundaries of incredulity that he is a Morrissey fan.

Is it a homage or plagiarism?

In August I travelled to Poland to see them live. There were already some live recordings of that song floating around on You Tube and the "You're gonna miss me when I'm gone" caught my ear's attention. The words, the way he sings it. I was hoping they'd come out after the concert to meet fans. I intended to "confront" Brandon Flowers (he's the lead singer, solely responsible for the lyrics and the actual Morrissey fan in the band) with my assumption. Unfortunately it was too crowded and I didn't find the time to ask him about it. :p

Anyway, to cut a long story short: I'm quite sure it's a homage. :)

The Raveonettes on Morrissey

-Which musician do you most admire, and why?

-Morrissey, because he was in one of the best bands ever.
A band which produced brilliant music and his way with words and lyrics are completely awe inspiring and funny.
I’ll apologise now for choosing a band from Manchester!

Hotel Morrissey
Morrissey is a modern, 135-room apartment hotel in the heart of Jakarta

I mentioned this before somewhere a while ago, but thought this was worth it for the motorbike photo

Re: Strange / unexpected Morrissey references

Not sure it is the right topic, but in the French gay magazine "Têtu", the French singer Benjamin Biolay, who paid a tribute to Morrissey on his previous album by sampling the same Rachmaninov's theme as in The Teachers are Afraid of the Pupils, mentions Morrissey again :

Q: Your music, as your life, is dedicated to women:

A: Whereas my favourite musician is Morrissey. I discovered very late that he was homosexual. Musically, without knowing, I was raised by a gay ...

Total lez.

Morrissey on "Shameless"

I was just watching the sixth season of "Shameless" as it was recently added to Netflix in the U.S. In Episode 3, there is an awesome Morrissey reference outside of Salford Lads Club. "Look, there he is! There's Morrissey!"

It starts at 1:05 in the video. Enjoy, for those who haven't seen it.

Strange / Unexpected references

I'm bidding for best ever Strange / Unexpected reference with this one...

Guy Martin (Superbike racer, Lorry mechanic and all round top bloke) is presenting a series on Channel 4 called 'How Britain Worked' this week he was learning about piers and brass bands amongst other things,...check out this link from 24:20 - Guy isn't very musical, in fact he reveals the height of his musical skills was fixing Morrissey's tour bus when it broke down in Grimsby.

Re: Strange / Unexpected references

In the latest season of the brilliant The Thick Of It; Ollie is in hospital after having his appendix out when Malcolm Tucker walks in to which Ollie proclaims "Oh look its the scary Morrissey."

Re: Strange / Unexpected references of Morrissey

According to my friend's tweet, a Japanese fashion model (but his father is British) Rui Kurihara mentioned Morrissey on Japanese TV show.

I never heard of him, but he is known as a negative model because of his pessimistic attitude.

Also my friend commented that it was the first time she heard of Morrissey's name on mainstream TV show.
