An album of covers is an artistic thing, about interpretation and sometimes reinvention. A different context can even shed light on the original, or at least make you hear it differently. Also, not all performers are also writers. It's a different thing and no more or less valid.
I LOVE "Dear God..." and I would like to hear a good cover version... I wonder if she leaves "kegs between legs" line
