They tried to do what you suggested, and they did it well. So that one kept flipping back and forth between them & KROQ, and the ride from O.C. to L.A. or Riverside to L.A., you get the idea, was cool.

Anyway man, I know the station existed and it was good...totally alternative 80's but you know The Human League, Thompson Twins, Culture Club, Eurythmics, etc., were not beyond their reach, meaning they walked that line, but it was always alternative, nothing right down the middle of what generally made up American Top 40 in the Reagan Years. And hey, if Spandau Ballet or Simply Red had a top 40 or top 20 hit in the USA ("Holding Back The Years" went to #1), well it wasn't the station's fault, you know.

We'd start our own Love-Line (does that show still exist?), give it a different name, and compete with Dr. Drew & Adam Corolla. We'd have 1 medical doctor and rotating infamous porn stars as the guests. Jenna Jamison, Stacy Valentine, Jill Kelly, Tabitha Stevens - you know the LEGENDS of Porn. And the doctor, would be Indian or Pakistani with full on accent like the coroner in the O.J. Simpson case who was on the stand for 5 days talking about the most gruesome details...but the accent & his animation made it comical. I can say this: I am Indian & Pakistani & Afghani & American. Trust me, the cliche of the Indian doctor and those celebrated sluts of the smutty screen is a sure fire hit! In doing this we reign in both people of the Indian Subcontinent, and all those men (90%) who rent/buy porn but would never admit to it.

Hire a young hip Mexican like Lil Rob (if he does not diss the 80's on the air) to reel in the Latinos. Get them, you have 1/2 of So. Cal.

And I'd make sure that 1 Smiths or 1 Moz song was played in the rotation at the top of each hour, 24/7.

Tower Records in Paramus was packed with PJ fans Tuesday Night. I should know, I was there. My Wife asks me the same thing, so I take her (kicking and screaming) to a PJ show I make sure and point out to her all the sell out crowds. Riot Act sucked but who hasn't come out with something less than stellar, Mozzer included.

Speaking of the 80's -- the same wonderful men who put on the Smiths & DM conventions are putting together an 80's convention. (I assume it's still on) I'm pretty sure it's in January or close to the beginning of the year. Sounds like it will be loads of fun. I wish I could go.

I think you are right. But actually there were a couple of stations. But what happens to them??? I know sometimes they get popular enough and then sell the station. Clear Channel will come in and buy them out o someone else. If its clear channel then you can bet you will get another crap station with taped DJ's and crap music.

KROQ has been a sell out for a long time. So sad because it used to be a great station once upon a time.

I would like to carry your suggestion one step further. I would love to see multiple video stations. They already have all those radio stations at the end of the digital cable lineup, make some/most of them video. You could have several 80's video stations and several 90's video stations. Even better if they have dj's to give interesting information introducing the videos. Pull Martha Quinn or Nena Blackwood or whomever out of celebrity hell and pay them cheap. Beginning comedians would make great vj's who would work cheap. Whatever, the production costs would be minimal I would imagine and it would generate sales for the music industry.

It would be interesting to see MTV's reaction. WOuld they stop the Road Rules marathons?

And I you, along with your thong-clad partner in crime. PJ, IMO went downhill after releasing a series live CD's. I posed your question to some co-workers and we came up with The Who*, and if you count country fairs-Styx(little joke).
