Celebratin' Shane MacGowan

On the day Shane MacGowan died, Hot Press Magazine released a special Pogues issue doubling as their Christmas edition. Epic Museum in Dublin had asked the editor to do a profile to coincide with an exhibition of the band's career. MacGowan's worsening condition was mentioned. Various celebrities and friends have their say. Nice keepsake.

Remember bein' really excited to see the film Straight To Hell, cause it was
directed by Alex Cox who made Repoman and it had The Pogues in it.
The film ended up bein' just ok.
It did have a country version of If I Should Fall From Grace With God though.

This here's In And Out, from an Australian film called Garbo.
This would be a good one for Moz to cover while he's in Australia.

"I'm shitfaced and I'm stoned, I want to be alone,
But all the lovely Sheilas love a garbo man"

Shane wrote Haunted for the Sid And Nancy soundtrack.
It was originally sung by Pogues bassist Cait O'Riordan.
Years later Shane and Sinead did a version for another
film called Two If By Sea.
This one is real popular with folks who make soundtracks.

This one too, a cover, that someone I knew well used to play a lot, and it drew tears. I guess it's an antiwar song. Surprising how rarely it's heard. It's a mighty rendition of a mighty creation.

The funeral winds from Dublin to Tipperary tomorrow; crowds expected

He'll get a good send-off there.

Shane's funeral, interestingly, takes place on Sinead O'Connor's birthday.
