Morrissey has paid the exit fee to Capitol Records in order to return both WORLD PEACE IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS and BONFIRE OF TEENAGERS albums back to him.
"It's been a long, hard, bloody war. Few would make it out alive, and … I'm no exception," he has commented.
Morrissey remains unsigned.

Is that acceptable/unacceptable quote a real Moz quote? It's hilarious and brilliant.
Yes, I do believe it`s a real Morrissey quote. I believe he wrote in a letter to a pen pal before he was famous. Later the pen pal published the letters Moz wrote to him before he became famous. If I`m incorrect anyone out there, please correct me.

Highly unlikely that the Mozzer would follow in the footsteps of Johnny Marr.

I would rather sit in a cellar or watch spiders than listen to an Englishman lecturing.
(Virginia Woolf, in a letter to Victoria Ocampo, 2nd Sept. 1937)

Although I guess it depends on the particular Englishman holding forth :brows:

Exactly. So what now?.

No "indie" label would have the clout to release the original recording without the consent of Columbia.

Maybe he will rerecord it with Dana Gillespie on backing vocals.
Or... didn't someone already mention the idea of inviting Siouxy? To celebrate the success of the Interlude re-issue! 🍾

That is a matter of opinion of course. I've been a fan for over 30 years and I love World Peace. I went to the most concerts during that tour. I think that's part of the reason it special for me.

I've been trying to trace what happened with World Peace Is None Of Your Business, released by Harvest Records in 2014

https://www.discogs.com/release/5883968-Morrissey-World-Peace-Is-None-Of-Your-Business

NME gave the album a very favourable review in July 2014 - https://www.nme.com/reviews/reviews-morrissey-15436-307565

But in August, NME noted the mystery of its removal from US digital stores, and reported on Morrissey's reservations about poor marketing conveyed via True-To-You - https://www.nme.com/news/music/morrissey-105-1240914

NPR colourfully recalls the history of Harvest Records, founded in 1969 as an obscure subsidiary of EMI dealing mainly with 'mad English music' - until Pink Floyd came along with Dark Side of the Moon. By the 80s it lost its moorings, handling mismatched genres, and eventually folded. Until 2014, when it roared back under new ownership by Capitol Records, with a new roster including Morrissey - https://www.npr.org/2014/07/31/3365...atter-a-record-companys-return-from-obscurity

So it was in Capitol's possession, which is why he could get it back from them along with Bonfire.

EMI owned Capitol Records until 2012, and both were then incorporated into Universal Music Group - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitol_Records

(Here's a 100th anniversary (1997) history of EMI - https://www.cac.org.uk/m100/emichron.html)

So where does that leave the album, which many feel is part one of a trilogy? It's a long time since war and peace have been troubling so many people so much. Does that make around now the right time for a re-release?

What seems like an interlude now could be the beginning of BOT.

now you’re talking sense, even if it is simply being hopeful.

I bet it’s easier and safer for big labels just to reissue back catalog rather than have a creative relationship with M and releasing new material. Unfortunately M doesn’t realize that major labels no longer want to risk $ believing in an artist like M. These are different times.

Look out guys, Captain Obvious is on the case!:lbf:

Now we're in May 2024 it'll be 3 years since it was announced won't it? Actually seems like longer.

We still don't know what the deal with the Rebel single was. A good week or so before that dropped online out of nowhere we had confirmation that Capitol were no longer scheduled to release the album. Going from the leaked emails it was clear things had gone completely wrong yet still the Rebels single came out?

I wonder if the problem with the Miley backing vocals on „I am Veronica“ is solved? If not, there won‘t be a record deal for BOT on a major or indie label.

I wouldn‘t be too surprised if we have to wait a few more years. It‘s very frustrating, isn’t it? :drama:

This song is very average anyway. So maybe it's time to release Bonfire without Veronica . No one will shed tears after this. 🤷‍♂️

I agree with you but Morrissey seems quite proud of Veronica so he probably won't part with it. I think the biggest hurdle is that, as his last statement mentioned, he remains unsigned.

There are two more things I wonder about. Whether there have been any talks with the label representing Miley regarding consent to include her voice on Morrissey's album. And secondly, has any independent label recently (let's say within the last year) offered Morrissey a contract to release his albums?

The whole thing surrounding Rebels is weird. I think they wanted to release Veronica as the first single but couldn't, so they released that and tried getting the issues with Miley solved

Miley might no longer object, at the time she was on the promo trail for her own release.

Or maybe she was removed.

The issue remains that no major issues willing to sign him and he will ONLY work with a major. It's gonna be a long haul.
