something i've noticed about most of morrisseys songs

the title is usually the first line or thing spoken in the song. not sure if there's necessarily any reason or anything. just something i've noticed. it's kind of annoying sometimes. any thoughts?

Some do... many, many, many, many don't. So you're about 15% correct. :)

well... panic at the disco...

'A minute of perfection was worth the effort. A moment was the most you could ever expect from perfection'

'I'd Rather Front a Histrionic Lyrically Dependent Prepubescent Hack Band Than Work Another Day At This Motherf***ing Slushie Stand'

'The Only Difference Between Martyrdom And Suicide Is Press Coverage'

'There's A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet'

Yes, they are song titles, not quotes.

Panic at the Disco are incurable. They lack ingenuity and are enslaved by commercialism. They write anthems for suicidal thirteen year old girls to embarass themselves to.

i remember morrissey saying in one of his interviews that he does care a lot about(choosing) song titles..
and said:"if someone has written a song and this someone saying he hasnt found
a songtitle yet then I ( moz) didnt want to hear it then":p
he mentioned the importance of choosing creative song title son other interviews.too but from memory I cant tell what he said there

Erm, a lot of them don't. Some don't even mention the title in the song; i.e 'Alsatian Cousin'.

Thank me later.

Was it Elvis Costello who said that Morrissey had the most peculiar song titles but didn't put any effort into the lyrics themselves? (Or something along the line...)

Yes! I was just going to quote that: "Morrissey writes the best song titles in the world. The trouble is, he forgets to write the song."

Sometimes I think he's right. Ha.

Morrissey's song titles are amazing. I know that recently there's been few songs where the title is not mentioned in the lyrics (I think Mama Lay Softly On The Riverbed is the only one on the new album which doesn't specifically mention those lines). But even looking at some of the titles, they're great. "Something Is Squeezing My Skull". "One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell", "It's Not Your Birthday Anymore" "When Last I Spoke To Carol" etc. etc. I agree his titles are a huge appeal, I disagree that they're getting worse

He also likes to repeat the same lyrics over and over again. Not that there is anything wrong with that. ;) These are but a few examples.

All The Lazy Dykes

You give,
and you give,
And you give, and you give, Give, and you give

All You Need is Me

you're gonna miss me when I'm gone
you're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You don't like me but you love me
either way, you're wrong
you're gonna miss me when I'm gone
you're gonna miss me when I'm gone

American Is Not the World

and I love you, I love you, I love you. And I love you, I love you, I love you.

Angel, Angel, Down We Go Together

But I love you more than life
I love you more than life
I love you more than life

At Last I Am Born

Once you are born, born, born
Born, born, born
Born, born, born

Come Back To Camden

And I'll be good, I'll be good, I'll be good, I'll be good

and sometimes I think he's wrong. ha!

actually, the songtitles have become very literal and obvious in recent years. there used to be loads of songs where the title was not sung - some of his finest songs had that (exempli gratia, how soon, suedehead, the loop).
these days, it's all just so screamingly obvious and unsubtle!

It would be funny if he had always done that. What would his back catalog look like?

"Farewell Cheerless Marshes"
"Oh, Mother"
"I'd Like To Drop My Trousers To The World"
"Hate Love and War"
"Trudging Slowly Over Wet Sand"
"Punctured Bicycle"
"Hello"
"Sweetness"
"Belligerent Ghouls"
"Learn To Love Me"
"I'm Standing In The Dark"
"You Have Never Been In Love"

Hmmm. Actually that reads like a pretty good Morrissey album. ;)
