I agree that there's nothing wrong with it, it might even be in my top 5 or so, but a favourite is different!

I think I've always been partial to Maladjusted as I've found alot of those songs, musically, very easy to listen to. Particularly "Roy's Keen" which I know even Morrissey is not that fond of.

And yes, Bona Drag does make for good driving music*

Now I have to cry "foul" on this poll. . .There is a difference between "best" and "favourite."

I voted for Quarry, as the best, then ranked them from best to worst.

But my favourite is Vauxhall. . .and listing them from fave to least fave is different:

yeah, know what you mean. there are three or four really good songs on Kill Uncle, which is two or three more than the worst solo albums...

Blimey, it's been a decade since I last fumbled in this forum. Just to say Years of Refusal is almost his masterpiece...i said "almost." I fear we may never get to grapple with the masterpiece.

I think Morrissey suffers from Morrissey Syndrome i.e. he's made too many good albums for people to fully appreciate.

For instance, had an unknown artist produced Kill Uncle in 1991 it'd now be seen as a quirky, cult, comedy classic rather than Morrissey's worst solo album.

Vauxhall got great reviews at the time, but it was still kind of overlooked for years and when Viva Hate came out, of course, people said it wasn't "as good as The Smiths". It seems to take each album 10/15 years before they are fully appreciated!

Bob Dylan went through a similar thing in the 80s/90s but now his back catalogue has been revisited and revised and reappraised - and I suspect the same thing will happen to Morrissey.

For the record, my favourite Morrissey albums are: Vauxhall, Quarry, and Refusal... but I "like" them all and think they're all "good".

Even Kill Uncle. I've started to think rating them is kind of reductive and insulting!
