Is Morrissey your favourite lyricist?

I think Morrissey is the greatest LYRICIST the human race has ever produced. He has a mastery of the english language which rivals, or comes damn close, to his inspirations, Shakespeare and Wilde.

I agree, what seperates Morrissey from his modern conterparts is the fact that his poetry and wit does not look out of place with that of classic poets. I know some will say it is ridiculous for me to say this about a pop star, but i think it holds some truth with Morrissey.

I'm not sure I could compare Moz to Shakespeare. After all, that man invented hundreds of words for the English language - that's some going!
But few people since have managed to take those words and consistently create works of pure genius. It wouldn't really bother me if nobody else appreciated them, as far as I'm concerned he's managed to write hundreds of lines that relate to me and my life & I thank him kindly.

I think Lou Reed's body of work is also superb...as long as you forget about most of the 1980's!
