Does anyone know when did Moz and the band play "What's the world", by James?
Also, was it ever released officially, were there any comments about the song, etc?

I got it in mp3 format but there's no info.

Thank you for the attention,

Laura

It was recorded in Glasgow in September, 1985. The version I have is on the Sweet & Tender Hooligan maxi-single CD, which was never officially released in the UK, I think.

1985? Are you sure, Uncleskinny?
I thought it was Morrissey solo...

Nope, definitely The Smiths in 1985 - that's what it says on the CD,which, by the way, contains Sweet & Tender Hooligan, I Keep Mine Hidden, Work Is A Four-Letter Word ad What's The World. It's an offcial release, not a bootleg. See the link below.

Thank you so very much, Uncleskinny.
I have so much to learn Smiths-wise.

just to add a bit more...
There's another version available on bootleg (Clickerman Centre, Lerwick, Shetland Isles, Scotland 28th September 1985), I think they only sang it in Scotland. Check the passions site that will have the details.

Unkle skinny and grim are correct in what they say. the version grim mentions is available on bootleg. the version unkle skinny mentions was originally released as an extra track on the cassette single of "i started something..." this made it a bit of a rarity..... until the "sweet and tender hooligan" cd.

Yeah, I just wanted to know which version I got...
The track (2:05) starts with Morrissey saying: "This song was written by..."
