all things punk/hardcore

Growing up in the 80's I got to see a lot of good shows. Warzone, Circle Jerks, The Meatmen, ST, 7-Seconds. The most intense show was GG Allin, up front dodging shit, punches, piss, blood. This sound bizarre, but the two things I mainly collect are Moz solo and GG stuff.

Holy crap! I was just saying that Morrissey kind of reminds me of GG Allin in a post on the main page. I thought someone would call me on it, but no one did. Maybe there's something to it after all...

I did a lot of hardcore chicken-dancing in Brooklyn and Jersey way back when; The Circle Jerks, 7-Seconds, a million little bands whose names I can't remember. I never did get to see GG, but I still have friends who speak of him with reverence. Talk about hardcore - he was it.

Some of my faves...

Crimpshrine/Fifteen

Ever listen to the Green Day/Crimpshine side-project Pinhead Gunpowder? They're awesome.

Screeching Weasel (My friend, who runs the Just add water label and I booked them at his moms daycare center for a show in 93)

First two Saves The Day records

Green Day (Smoked lots of pot with them in when they would come to town from 91-94)

The Parasites
Broadways
The Fiendz
Descendants
The Queers
Jawbreaker
Samiam
a lot of Lookout bands and old Victory.

Lookout was a great label. Screeching Weasel, the Descendents and the Queers are f***ing awesome, I just saw the Queers not too long ago, they were great. Of course I f***ing LOVE green Day, with the exception of these last two albums. Ever listen to the Muffs?

7 Seconds are great. I always found GG unpalatable, although I will say after him the only way a singer could be regarded as truly extreme or shocking is to commit murder or suicide on stage. Artists continually push the envelope, Iggy, Marylin Manson, etc.,...I think GG pushed it as far as it can be pushed. Perhaps farther than it should be.

And how they are undeniably the greatest underground punk/hardcore/post-hardcore/indie/whatever band that has happened in music period?

Everything they did was brilliant, nothing underlooked, nothing done conventionally. The music is amazing, and the lyrics are genius and passionate.

I would trade pretty much everything in my life to see them.

I am glad to read some Green Day love in this thread :thumb:
I've been following this band for like 20 years now and they are as gr8 live today as they were "back in the day"
and if actually listen to their lyrics, they are actually quite insightful
honestly, the fact that they ever became a major success is still a wonder to me
a good wonder I think though, and I really do get annoyed with people who I think do not like them just because they became "successful"

also, that sucks about your Fugazi record Munchy :(, I hope you can find another someday :guitar:

i own a T shirt by the band Panic that was a rip off of the rank front cover with the band's name in the same font, is awesome!
but hardcore is a passion of mine although i usually find myself horribly disulliosioned by it more often than not.

I assume you're being facetious. Truly a criminally under-appreciated band. Their finest hour (Or rather, finest three minutes give or take.) is indesputably "Where Are They Now?" it almost brings tears to my eyes.

Cock Sparrer are a fantastic band.

I'd say their best songs are

The Sun Says (great rant against this shitty paper!)
Chip on My Shoulder
They Mean Murder (anti war song)
Working (funny lyrics)
England Belongs to Me
I Need a Witness

Great to find another 'Sparrer fan.:D They're really criminally underappreciated. Excellent list, although I never liked "I Need a Witness" and I usually skip "Working", I'd add "Where are they now?", "Riot Squad", "Tough Guys", and "Because You're Young", so many great songs. "where are they Now/" actually moves me. If I could go back in time I would have loved to have seen the birth of British punk, seen the Pistols/Clash/Damned/Adverts/etc. in their heyday, I think it's a really beautiful song, and of course, bittersweet.

I haven't been able to really check this forum out for awhile due to the past one or two months because of the amount of shows having to be played or having to go see, so it's nice to come back to see a hardcore thread.

I just saw the California Disembodied reunion shows. So f***ing heavy. So good. So crazy. They were incredibly tight live. Did anyone else see them at the Cali or Chicago reunion? Does anyone else on this board even like them???

Ah, Conflict was one of my favorite bands for so long. I still really like them, along with Cocksparrer.

I saw Fugazi on the Red Medicine tour in Asheville NC. Tiny little venue. They played on the dance floor. Great Show...

I love Pinhead Gunpowder. This is a great cover they do by Diana Ross.
