Can you tell Jamie's not a fan of Jesse's songwriting? I happen to think Jesse sometimes has one good idea, but a memorable song needs 3 or 4 unique elements to make it stand out (lyrics notwithstanding). On the Streets and In the Future (my favourite two of his of Ringleader) -- Decent main...
Good riddance is a bit harsh and why I didn't vote myself, but to this day there seems to be a large percentage of die hard fans (?) who slag off the album, so I made the poll choice reflect that.
I'd have to go back in the archives to check out the mood after Quarry was released, but it...
I don't fully think it'll be the same just because it's the same producer, but that thought is out there, not to mention the fact that the production on That's How...was very recognizable as Finn's -- it could've been a Quarry session track.
Boz and especially Alain have a lot of range in...
I actually couldn't vote on my own poll!
I liked Ringleader slightly more than Quarry, mainly due to tracks such as Pigsty and Dear God, not to mention more organic production (though Finn's treatment of Morrissey's vocals is much better) but taking into account Quarry b-sides and the whole...
With the confirmation of Jerry Finn as producer on Morrissey's upcoming album, Alain weighing in with some strong tracks, and the excitement surrounding the new single and Greatest Hits package (complaining diehards -- try to see it from a much wider perspective that includes...
It's actually impossible to guess Morrissey album names because other than "Maladjusted" (his only single word title) and "Southpaw Grammar," already a fairly obscure expression before Morrissey popularised it, they don't exist as phrases before he creates them. Who would've thought anything...
Too bad you're so down on it, but at least your criticisms are articulate (;)).
I like the "ululations" (good word) -- they remind me of the soundtrack to Dario Argento's "Phenomena". I notice her vocals only appear at the beginning but there are no backing vocals later in the song as there...
In print? Someone with better archives or powers of recall could probably cite some articles.
It could've been something as simple as Walters introducing himself as "Owen" to journalists to separate one part of his career from another, from which it perpetuated.
So maybe "Jake Owen" was simply the name he used in his Moz assistant position and that's all there is to it.
It's interesting that "Imperfect List" has kept the link between Moz and Jake alive, because despite an interesting sound and good vocal delivery, some of that list is massively out...
Well, I've always wondered about that but nobody's ever confirmed it. It seemed a bit odd that he'd have Two Jakes (pun intended) hanging around at the same time in his career. Although some people said that Jake Owen's photos (such as on the back of Vauxhall) are obviously the mark of an...
Interesting to re-read that thread. But looking at the right-hand photo in the below panel from Jake Walters' (professional photographer) site -- isn't that Jake Owen taking the photo? Unless they had the same haircut and white denim jacket...I don't get it. It's similar to the shot on the promo...
Silly question, but why did Morrissey have such a sensible haircut around the time of Strangeways? In the eary Smiths days his hair was huge and then it was huge again by the time Viva Hate was released.
Actually the NME had used that shot of Moz in the canary-coloured shirt before the whole brouhaha came up, maybe more than once.
Has it been established which gig(s) the live versions are from? I'd like to get a preview on Youtube to put it into context. Thanks.
By the way, when was the last time there was a Morrissey single that preceded an album (assuming "That's How..." is on the album)?
As for non-album singles, not including "Redondo Beach/There Is A Light..." I guess "Sunny" was the last such release?
I liked her "wailing". I think it adds something unique to the song.
The very beginning of her vocal sounds like some kind of war cry. Is that an influence from her Apache lineage? This has probably been brought up on Kristeen sites etc. etc. didn't have time to check.
And wiki says the track...
Thanks for the skinny on that. It's a fine choice for a single -- very much looking forward to the studio version. Will Kristeen be brought in to redo the vocals or will they use an existing recording? Hmmm.
And will it be Finn producing? And what kind of cover will it have? And, and...and...
