Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie said on their Radio 2 show last night that they hope to have Morrissey in soon - talking and playing some songs. They are waiting for confirmation and will confirm it on their show next week (Mon -Thurs, 8-10pm, Radio 2) :o)

Nostalgia or tribute?

I remember when i first heard it...i think it was 1984 and i was driving by my college listening to the college radio station, when i heard "R.A.T.F." by the Smiths...i think i was stoned, and i was struck at the sheer honesty and no bullshit nature of the singer and the pure poetry of the lyrics and the beauty of the chimey clean guitars

Hey,

Not really Morrissey-related, but interesting nonetheless. Johnny Marr has been taking part in a charity event for Oxfam called 7 Worlds Collide II - for those who know what the original was, it's the same idea as last time but with different band members and they're recording an album for charity this time as well as the live shows.

Johnny has been a big part of the event so far, bringing in his own NEW songs, as well as playing some older one's at the live shows - including Down On the Corner, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out(with Neil Finn) and the most interesting, a rendition of Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want

From what I can gather, Johnny's new songs have the titles 'Too Blue' and 'You Never Know'.

Here are a selection of the Johnny-related clips:

Please, Please...
There Is A Light...
One of Johnny's compositions, titled "You Get Through"

Vapour Trails: Revisiting Shoegaze

Neil Halstead (Slowdive singer/guitarist)

“We were huge My Bloody Valentine fans. Christian [Savill, Slowdive guitarist] used to run an MBV fanzine, and we used to go up and see them when they were signed to Cherry Red, when they were a really jangly indie band. The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Smiths also had this huge impact. Lots of 16-year-olds heard those records for the first time, and it was like, ‘This is real, not shiny.’ I think it’s kind of the way we thought about music and the music we wanted to make.”
