Morrissey: we'll get you! - The Metro

Singer Morrissey has branded Oxford the 'shame of England' for allowing a controversial new animal testing laboratory in the city.

The former frontman of The Smiths warned laboratory workers 'we will get you' during a concert in the city to promote his new album.

The 47-year-old, who is a strict vegan and animal rights activist, also told his fans: 'If you agree with vivisection, go and be vivisected upon yourself.'

It is not the first time the outspoken singer has courted controversy on the issue – earlier this year he claimed violence was the only language laboratory scientists understand.

Oxford-based anti-animal testing group Speak was invited personally by the singer to run a stall at the concert, exposing the fate of the animals that will be tested on at the Oxford University laboratory.

A Speak spokesman said that, although the group did not condone violence, they were pleased Morrissey had raised awareness of the issue.

He added: 'We need to talk about the violence being committed upon animals. I applaud the fact that Morrissey's been brave enough to stand up and say what he thinks.

'I suspect when he said “we will get you” he wasn't talking about violence at all, but about exposing these people for what they do.'

Last week, Oxford University won a legal appeal to extend an exclusion zone around the £20million biomedical centre to keep demonstrators away from the building site.

Where's the cattiness, boys - The Electric New Paper, Singapore

But just as everyone at the conference began putting away their notebooks, Tennant began almost innocently enough by asking: 'So what does everyone think of Morrissey's (popular English singer) new album?'

The journalists immediately responded with positive reviews.

Which led Tennant to scrunch up his face and bitch: 'His songs all seem to sound the same to me, regardless of which decade he releases them. But what do I know?'

Morrissey – 'The Youngest Was the Most Loved' (Sanctuary) - review by Ed Harcourt, Playlouder

You expect an introduction?

"The Youngest Was the First In the Gang To Die. Um, again I kind of find myself getting technical with the way it sounds, and obviously Tony Visconti is a massive influence on modern rock 'n' roll and he's one of the icons I guess as is Morrissey, so you've got these two amazing characters – one amazing artist and one amazing producer – and sometimes when you get an amazing artist and an amazing producer the means don't necessarily justify the end."

They're very much two icons of their time in a way.

"It's alright. I like the children singing. I feel really bad saying I don't like it. I don't dislike it, it's quite a nice song but I think it could have been executed better. Is it my speakers or does it sound a bit muddy? Who mixed it? Hmm, Tony Visconti mixed it. It sounds like Morrissey is treading water and it sounds quite like the last album. I liked some of the last album, but it's like 'come on Morrissey, don't disappoint me, don't let me down.'

"He's writing about the same things as well. The youngest was the most loved [whispers] and he became a killer. Oooooh yes! I don't really know what he's trying to say in this song, but I do love Mozza. It's underwhelming. But I do like the kids choir. Mind you, Daz Sampson has a kids choir..."

Today while I was myspace, I saw that Red Lightning posted a bulletin that they would be on the midday show "Jonesy's Jukebox" on Indie 103.1.

I'm listening to this and I heard something very interesting.

Steve was suggesting to Alain he move out to Los Angeles and was suggesting this home for sale across the street from him. he said that it was about 1.5 million for the house, and alain said that he's flattered that Steve thinks he's that rich.

Morrissey was mentioned several times in an episode of BBC Three sitcom "Grownups". Entitled "Reflectomoz", one of the episode's subplots featured a character purchasing a mirror with Morrissey's face on the side from eBay, much to the dismay of his flatmate. Two Smiths songs - Shoplifters Of The World Unite & Bigmouth Strikes Again - were played during the episode.

The program itself was terrible, but it's always nice to hear Moz get a mention on mainstream TV.

Russell Brand is a Morrissey fan. I saw him stubmling out of the May 14, 2006 London Palladium show. He looked like a drugged out pirate. Think Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean. He had his arm around some girl but it wasn't Kate Moss (who he's supposedly dating).

For those of you who don't know, Russell Brand is a comedian and the host of BBBM - Big Brother's Big Mouth. It's a support show to the UK version of Big Brother. It's a 30 minute live on-air show where people in the audience voice their thoughts about the contestants in the Big Brother House.

Last week, after "Paki Poof" Shahbaz left the Big Brother house, Russell Brand had celebrity guest Paul Morley on the show. Morley is the guy who recently interviewed Morrissey for Uncut Magazine. He was also at the Salford Morrissey show. On BBBM, Russell showed clips of Shahbaz misbehaving in the house, chasing around the other housemates. Guess what music played in the background during the clips? It was "The More You Ignore me the Closer I Get."

Strangely enough Moz criticizes Kate Moss, (Russells's current girl and Pete Doherty's ex) within that Uncut interview. It's all getting too incestious!

And as if you didn't get enough of Russell and his Morrissey references, in last Sunday's News of the World Russell wrotes a Big Brother column (as he does every week). On describing the various housemates Russell said that "Richard was the ringleader of Shahbaz's tormentors." Ha! I wonder how many people caught that reference?
