Angela of MorrisseyTour.com writes:

The news through the grapevine is that apparently Sanctuary is fuming over the KROQ thing. You remember, that conversation where Morrissey called in KROQ to announced the make up shows for inland invasion. The folks at Sanctuary are upset that this web site revealed that the caller was not Morrissey, but rather Charlie Browne, a long time crew member. No, I haven’t receive my official fatwa (yet). Although I’ve been assured of its arrival

It was my personal opinion that the caller was not Morrissey. I’ve known Charlie Brown for the past 5 years and am familiar with his voice. Additionally, I spoke with three of his former co-workers all who agreed it was him.

Sanctuary and KROQ insist that Morrissey was the caller. Sanctuary and KROQ would never lie or deceive us so we must take their word as the truth. The caller was so obviously Morrissey that it seems perplexing that I could have confused him for anyone else. Mea Culpa. I stand corrected. I was wrong.

I can assure you that the rumours regarding Morrissey not being the caller are false and the integrity of Sanctuary and KROQ cannot be questioned! They handled a very difficult situation impeccably and you should treat anything you are told to the contrary as rubbish.

Additionally, I, Angela (of MorrisseyTour.com) want to clarify that the account of events leading up to the rumour that Morrissey was not caller in the phone call to KROQ on September 28, 2004, previously was posed on this site.

The above mentioned account was not trying to question ever the professionalism either of the Artist or of his Management or KROQ. MorrisseyTour.com apologizes should any of the relation of events included in our website have caused any misunderstanding between the KROQ and the Artist, his Management and his fans.

MorrisseyTour.com did everything possible in order to confirm the veracity of the rumour. On the other hand, MorrisseyTour.com declares and recognizes that KROQ, the Artist and Sanctuary Artist Management are correct in saying that Morrissey was the actual caller.

Finally, MorrisseyTour.com regrets any distress this matter has caused KROQ, the Artist and Sanctuary Artist Management venue and hopes that no fans were misled in our very obvious mistake!

This charming man By Joan Anderman, Globe Staff | October 3, 2004

Morrissey's music continues to captivate listeners from all walks of life

Their duration was fleeting -- a mere five years from start to rancorous finish -- and their output, four studio albums, meager. And yet 17 years after the Smiths, the defining British indie-rock band of the '80s, loosed their last acerbic, melancholy gem, the band's influence not only endures but grows wider and deeper.

Morrissey was heavily featured during a profile of Chrissie Hynde tonight (Friday) on BBC 4.

The leader of the Pretenders, who have sold millions of records since they formed in the late 70's, is a Vegetarian, staunch supporter of PETA & passionately opposed to the mistreatment of animals.

Morrissey is shown several times, immaculately dressed in a dark shirt, dark blazer dark denims, & you guessed it, dark shoes, sitting in an armchair in a hotel room from where he makes several comments in support of Chrissie's involvement in Animal Rights campaigns, as well as giving his own opinions on the subject, such as :

"She will go to any lengths at all to help animals & that to me is absolutely remarkable & heroic & God bless her"

"There is nothing as controversial as eating animals, as demanding that animals die just because you feel slightly peckish"

"If you go into an abbatoir, it's exactly like the German atrocities, it's exactly like The Holocaust"

From his appearance, i'd say the interview was recent.
Anyway, the programme wasn't listed in my TV Guide, so it was great to stumble across it.

Morrissey appeared on the BBC 4 television programme, "Pop & Politics - Chrissie Hynde" on Friday evening in the UK (1st October). There was basically a couple of snippets of an interview with Morrissey saying how much he respected Chrissie Hynde for her support of PETA & her animal rights activism. The programme also featured the audio of 'Meat Is Murder' against a backdrop of pictures showing animal cruelty. It was an excellent programme & I would definitely recommend people to look out for it if it should be repeated. Morrissey was, ofcourse, extremeley eloquent & made some very interesting remarks.

Requiescant Inpacce writes:

An (admittedly fantastic) new compilation CD from Rough Trade records called 'Rough Trade Shops: Indiepop 1' has rather annoyingly taken three pot-shots at Morrissey within it's accompanying booklet.

The booklet features essays by Sean (no surname given) who compiled the CD; The Legend!(a.k.a. Everett True, former NME jounalist and indiepop fanatic); and Matt Hayes, co-founder of Indie label 'Sarah Records'.

In Sean's essay he says, completely apropos of nothing; "Also why do we let Morrissey away with spouting potentially inflamatory comments about immigration. Dont give this man column inches. He is a bigot. The world is, of course, for everyone. No borders". This comes out of the blue in an interesting article about his love of 80s Indie records. There's no connection with anything else in his essay.

In Everett True's piece he claims; "I never liked it when Indie became codified into a description. In the mid-80s Indie grew to mean 'white middle-class boys playing jangling guitars who own every Smiths album and a couple of early Creation singles'.

Later he says; "Us cutie kids, as we sickeningly became known, considered Morrissey a fraud. We knew there was no way he could get up there and sing those words, if he really felt like that".

Everett True is a brilliant writer, and tireless champion of alternative music, so it's rather disappointing that he should single out Morrissey for such an attack.

Sean, on the other hand, later shoots himself in the self-righteous foot when he writes; "['I Know Someone Who Knows Someone Who Knows Alan McGee Quite Well' by The Pooh Sticks] still makes me laugh out loud to this day, but, then again, so does 'Mind Your Language'". For the uninitiated, 'Mind Your Language' was an excruciatingly racist British sitcom from the late 1970s in which VERY stereotypical foreigners try to learn English, with 'hilarious' results.

Anyway, the CD is well worth buying, even if the booklet does make the blood boil.

Sure to make Morrissey shudder, Top Tory and policy co-ordinator David Cameron admitted "Depressing music" to be "Strangly Uplifting"

Source BBC, Link: Tories say what rocks their world

Excerpt:

But perhaps the most surprising revelation was David Cameron's penchant for "miserable" music by Radiohead, Pulp and The Smiths - all well-known critics of the Conservatives. Smiths singer Morrissey once recorded a song about Margaret Thatcher called "Margaret on the Guillotine".

Mr Cameron said he found music by these bands "strangely uplifting".

"The more depressing the better," he added, describing his music tastes.

Good Charlotte Takes on 'Life and Death'

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - "I wear black on the outside because that's how I feel on the inside," Good Charlotte's Joel Madden deadpans when describing his romantic outlook.

Though it's surprising to hear the lead singer of a multiplatinum pop/punk band with a heavy female following quote Morrissey, it's this darker theme that drives the group's third Daylight/Epic Records effort, "The Chronicles of Life and Death," due in stores Oct. 5.

My fiance, Bryan Rowley, passed away on Wednesday. He was a massive Morrissey & The Smiths fan and the last gig we went to was to see Morrissey at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. Bryan suffered a massive brain haemorrhage on Thursday 23rd September and was on life support for 6 days, fighting for his life whilst the neurosurgeons at Hope Hospital in Salford, Manchester performed 2 operations on his brain to remove some of the blood.

He was my best friend and I wish he was still here. Please say a prayer for him.
