In this month's Uncut magazine there is a great article talking about the inside story of The Smiths while recording Strangeways Here We Come. The article ("The Smiths Forgotten Masterpiece") is written by Simon Goddard who releases the book "The Smiths - Songs That Saved Your Life" in November.

Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke both contribute to the story with Mike saying it was their equivalent to 'Sgt Pepper'. It also goes on to explain the rifts between Morrissey and Marr and how it all became too much for Johnny to continue in the band.

The new issue of Uncut magazine has an interesting feature on the making of The Smiths last album Strangeways Here We Come. There's some funny quotes about their apparent fascination with Spinal Tap (building stonehenges with fag packets) and the article mentions an unreleased outtake called "Heavy Track" which is supposed to sound like Led Zeppelin.

Stephen Street also talks about an argument between Morrissey and Marr and according to Andy Rourke they split up "in a chippy". The feature seems to be a tie-in with Simon Goddard's book called 'The Smiths - Songs That Saved Your Life' which is meant to be published in November. Hopefully the Arcane Old Wardrobe site will transcribe it soon?

It looks like someone's given an explanation for the Morrissey postponement v cancellation, it appears that Vancouver, Calgary is going to be rescheduled into the second leg...and possibly a second show for Vancouver?!? Check out the link from the Georgia Strait newspaper here in Vancouver. A second show would make up for the wait...

Intro:HOB SINGS THE BLUES Last week was a rough one for the folks at the local office of House of Blues Concerts. On Friday (July 26), HOB announced the postponement of the Morrissey concert scheduled for August 29, due to "unforeseen circumstances". It seems that some members of Morrissey's band found themselves without the necessary visas to enter the U.S., where the tour was to have begun. This situation forced the postponement or cancellation of many shows, including all Canadian dates. House of Blues Concerts Canada's Jason Grant told the Straight, "We had a sold-out show at the Commodore and we were hoping to add a second, but now we'll have to schedule something for the next leg of the tour." Tickets for the August 29 concert will be honoured at the rescheduled show, or can be returned for refund at point of purchase.

I just got a call from a friend working the ticket sales for FASTIXX in Seattle. Her machine just informed that Morrissey has cancelled Seattle. What gives? I sure as hell hope not...I was one of the many that travelled to the ill-fated Las Vegas Show last go around.

Can someone confirm or refute this? The Seattle date still shows on Ticketmaster.

Update: 08/03 15:53 GMT: Seattle is not cancelled, according to Paul as posted in the comments section:

my friend at fasttix called back to day she was mistaken and that a show at "the met" was cancelled. NOT the Paramount. Sorry for the alarm...Paul Eliot

Morrissey was scheduled to play a soldout show in El Paso, Texas, Tuesday, August 6th. Instead, we're left with only THIS on that night: Mope around with your fellow, truly disappointed Moz fans at a free Morrissey/Smiths tribute night at Club Dedo (corner of Mesa and Rio Grande) from 9pm-2am. 18+.Drink, drink, drink and be ill if you were unlucky enough to book a trip there for that orginally-scheduled show.
