Tony Fletcher (author of A Light That Never Goes Out) recommends black music, but...

Excerpt:

The Smiths? There’s more blackness in the music than you might initially perceive. Read about it. Search it out. And then boycott Morrissey’s music because he’s turned into your horrible racist grandfather. Seriously, stop apologizing for the guy and stop listening to his recent music. He’s an embarrassment.

Morrissey is such a racist and yet he was wearing an Obama tshirt long before Obama became president, didnt see any other singer wearing an Obama tshirt.

Is this like that thing where you get really angry with people on here when they like a positive review of Morrissey's music, because they're only liking the review as it fits with their own opinions?

It is a bit like that, isn't it.

(Fletcher makes a very good point later on in that blog post about readers buying way fewer books about black musicians, though.)

But you're still here..........over and over and over you moan and whine like a little bitch.

:laughing::ha-no:

Didn’t know that everyone has horrible racist grandfathers. Maybe only Tony does, so he assumes it to be the norm?

Morrissey is not horrible, not racist, and not a grandfather. And I’m sure he’s proud not to be any of these things.

‘Boycott Morrissey’s music’ ?!

The Smiths IS Morrissey’s music.

Anyhoo ....

I will never say I told you so
Or how I knew that something bad
Would happen to you
I don't want to say I told you so
Oh, but Tony, I told you so!!!
I told you so

It's convenient that people can still listen to the music that Fletcher wrote a book about, made by the all-white band.

But they should stop listening to the music Morrissey is making with people of colour.

They never really think it through.

I suppose it's a bit like J K Rowling & the transphobia thing - except most older hacks are confused by the trans row & stay silent or agree with her.

Whereas Moz has got himself embroiled in convoluted rows about Islamism and immigration & they understand that as far right racism, which they know is bad.

It’s so arrogant of Tony Fletcher to tell us that we should stop listening to Morrissey. Why? Because he’s become a convenient target for people eager to demonise somebody, anybody, in an effort to spotlight how wonderful they themselves are?

It’s narcissistic & sickening.

& don’t even get me started on our mental-case-in-residence, Skinny; that’s a vipers nest of contradictions & shitty inconsistencies that I’d rather not disturb.

The fact that they think it's wrong to speak out against mass immigration and the problem that is Islam means they don't understand. One can't understand something wrongly.

I'm sick of people telling us what to do. He can stop listening to Moz. That's his right. It's not his right to tell me not to listen. He can take a run and jump.

Barbarbism begins at home is funk. Ok. How Soon is Now is Bo Diddley. Ok. As to the rest of...what...100 songs........can't see it.
I guess with The Smiths I like how it sounds like it's from somewhere altogether different but familiar. I don't hear funk but I can see why some would. Also I don't care either.

Yeah.

I think Moz is worried about laws & social structures - but they think he hates the people for being different.

Just as most younger hacks think J K Rowling doesn't care about laws & definitions that impact women, she just hates trans women for being born male.

Moz has made the wrong move going with Anne Marie but he's not turned into the demonic racist Grandpa running around in their imaginations.

That article is bollocks.

It was a brief point about Obama not doing enough about the Ferguson riots, when Black Lives Matter first started.

He was supporting Black Lives Matter.

Poor sod. Just because he's rubbish** at framing his political points the press keep hammering him.

**not rubbish as such, just can't word it in a way that's acceptable to the media.

What a moronic quote from a Fletcher, but unsurprising given the typical mindset of Brit media types now when it comes to Morrissey. They are utterly unhinged - even worse than in the ‘90s with the NME‘s “get Morrissey” campaign.

And does Fletcher not understand that that quote actually paints him as the racist one, even while he panders to blacks and the left? Why does he feel the need justify The Smiths‘ music on grounds that there is “really a lot of blackness in the music“? What does that even mean, and why it assumed to be good if so? And is Fletcher the arbiter of “blackness”? Conversely, if he thought The Smiths’ music had too much “whiteness,” would Fletcher deem that a flaw? Why does he think “blackness“ in music should she assumed to be good, but “whiteness” by implication assumed to be bad?

Basically Fletcher is just a self-righteous, self-hating, virtue-signaling, pandering twat. In other words - a typical British leftist.

What about the Motown beat of This Charming Man? The guitar sound on William It Was Really Nothing or Nowhere Fast - listen to "Good Times" by Chic. Johnny Marr's jangle is really derived from that kind of bright, syncopated guitar.
