The XX

does anyone agree with me?

not completely.

minimalism is hard to get just right, but they make it work. so musically i think they're great...

it the singing that kills me. the female singer is decent if unremarkable, but the male just doesn't work. i know for some odd reason a lot of upcoming bands are influenced by 90's R&B (Klaxons covered 'No Diggity,' and The XX do an Aaliyah song) but the forced, throaty smooth jazz-style vocals are a bit of a hurdle that keep me from completely getting in to them

that said, i REALLY like the music and i am looking forward to seeing them open for Friendly Fires next month

It's funny you should say that! that's exactly what I though upon first listen... however, with each listen it became less and less important to me - you are right: his voice isn't great BUT I (somehow) don't mind :)

I love the album also :)
Am very much regretting not seeing them at Reading now.
