That would have to go to the late John Smith... the only one that could have saved us from Blair and all the wars

In terms of this election, I'm in denial of the possibility of a Tory government. I'm clinging to the possibility of a Lab / Lib coalition (didn't that used to just be called 'The Labour Party'?) with Nick Clegg insisting on the removal of Gordon Brown as leader as the price for coalition - let's face it no one inside Labour has the guts to oust him.

Either that or a Tory majority of less than 10 where the Posh Boy struggles to get any legislation past the old guard, euro-phobe, homophobe majority of the Tory party.

The Lib Dems could have done so much better in this Election if they had a leader with a bit of character.
Clegg/Cameron Cameron/Clegg Clameron/Cegg ?
I'm confused,who's who ?

Elvis Costello was right on the mark :

" I write in hopes that by the time you get this letter
We may live to see a change for the better
Or are we so devoted to these wretched selfish motives
When the cold facts and figures all add up
They cannot contradict this sad burlesque

This sad burlesque
With miserable failures making entertainment of our fate
Laughter cannot dignify of elevate
This sad burlesque

Now can they recall being young and idealistic
Before wading knee-deep in hogwash and arithmetic
The pitying smirk
The argument runs like clockwork
Will run down eventually and splutter to a stop

P.S. Well by now you know the worst of it
And we've heard all the alibis that they've rehearsed
The smug predictions
If it's not a contradiction
Keep faith in human nature
And have mercy on the creatures in this sad burlesque "

Whats the alternative though? I would rather eat my own face than vote for Cameron...

What's the alternative? ANYONE!

Although if it bothers you & you really can't bring yourself to vote Tory, just vote Lib Dem instead. In truth, the seats that are going to go Tory have probably already gone and most of Labour's seats are in constiuencies populated by morons who won't ever vote for anyone else.

There are far more marginal seats that are marginal between Lib Dem & one of the others than there are seats that are marginal between Labour & the Tories.

Seriously though: Tory, Lib Dem, BNP, Socialist Labour, Monster Raving Loony... anyone. Just please don't vote Labour.

THIRTEEN IS ENOUGH.

PS: Or UKIP. Don't vote for them either. They're the worst elements of every party all wrapped in a tidy package.

No chance I'm going anywhere near Labour, no doubt about that. Especially now a certain Mandelson is prowling around. What a slimeball he is, the way he has rushed through the digital economy bill just about epitomises him, utter disgrace to this country and humanity in general. The amount of influence that man has is ridiculous and all the cameras should be following him around instead of Brown because that's who the real prime minister is and everyone in parliament knows it.

I appreciate your view but its a bit different where I am. Its a Labour stronghold and if the Tories get in overall, Scots will almost certainly vote for independance which I strongly disagree with. The SNP have been pretty rotten in Scottish government and we have had an odd mish-mash of two parties in charge - a glimpse of what a hung parliament might be like perhaps - so its hard to judge who to blame for the mess we are in.

You have to admit - Labour/Brown can't be blamed for everything of the last 13 years. Would the Tories have dealt with the economic crisis any better? I think not.

Too bad Screaming Lord Sutch killed himself; this might have been his year.

"change" ,the key word for the Tories this election.
Watch any interview with them and i'll bet you they say"change" in it.

Talking of which, they used both keane's "Everybody's CHANGing"
("It's a great song and David's a great fan,” the spokesperson said.) and
Bowies,"CHANGES" at their launch.

Obviously ignored the "the others must see the faker" and the " Where's your shame,You've left us up to our necks in it" bits.

Please to god there are no Morrissey/Smiths tunes with "change" in them.

Oh,and what's all this imported American use of the racially diverse, age diverse etc etc audience BEHIND the speaker they seem to be favouring at the moment?
I predict a fall coming (just needs one little kid do the Vs behind Davey boy's back). There was a little boy scout there the other day looking bored but sadly missed his chance for 15 mins of infamy.

Ah right. Yes I think in a choice between Labour or SNP, I still wouldn't vote Labour but at least I'd need to think about it.

I don't blame Labour for everything wrong with the last 13 years but to be honest, the economy is the least of my concerns. Labour could have regulated the banks better but the economic crisis was an ineveitable train wreck really.

No, my main concern with Labour is all the little ways they've made us less free. Allow me to quote a post I made on another forum:

'My opinion on Labour has very little to do with economy.
It's about not being able to go to a pub & have a cigarette, it's about not being able to go to the pub & afford a pint, it's about not being able to walk down the street without being captured on CCTV, it's about relentless fuel tax increases, relentless nagging on television.... don't do this, don't do that, don't don't don't.
It's about Labour letting the utility companies rape us daily, it's about being able to get on a plane without being 'naked body scanned' (and if you think that's to do with terrorism as opposed to trying to put people off flying then you're living in a dream world), it's about ID cards, the endless ripping to shreds of the education system.
They STILL have the blatant ageism of minimum wage at a lower rate for under 21s & the blatant ageism surrounding unemployment & housing benefit, they haven't renationalised the railways but even so they've managed to meddle & poke & prod & make things worse.

Billions wasted in Iraq, billions bailing out the banks because they failed to regulate them.

Speed cameras every 50 yards, people getting fined because their bin lid is open by an inch. The list could go on & on & on & on.

I simply do not care if the Tories are worse, I've had to live through this bunch of b***ards for 13 years, I've earned the right to find out one way or the other. '

I was quite proud of that post, but not proud enough that I was going to type it all again from scratch!

The Lib Dems just appropriated Eno's (sublime) Ascent for their latest party political broadcast.
First use of ambient music in politics ?

What next ? Agadoo used by the BNP ?

I'm interested to know what you all thought of the first TV debates?

I thought Cameron was awful. I fear for our country in his hands.
Clegg was good but will never win so can be more honest than the others.
Brown had the hardest job and did well I thought but not brilliant considering his experience.

The Scottish version is going to be laughable at best but since most of the topics discussed tonight fall within the Scottish parliaments remit makes it even more important for my decision. Unfortunately....

We all sat down and watched this last night, and although it started off pretty sterile, it got going after a while. Although I have no political axe to grind, as I shan't be voting for any of them, I thought that Clegg was by far the most impressive performer. My initial thought is that this is going to be a hung parliament.

Here's hoping Clegg gets into power, and if Cameron does then the voting is rigged.
