Norm MacDonald Laughter Accolades

Yep, you and ya sis do surely sound different.
I kinda think that there was a time when Norm was considered
to be a "hot property" in the mainstream entertainment arena.
He was comin' off of Saturday Night Live and they thought he
might be one of them types.
Ya can see how folks might think it, but the thing is that there
really weren't someone like Norm before, so ya really can't
put'em into some kind of easy fittin' system.

Jim Breuer told a funny story about it...

oh my god, that's amazing!!! i love how he just overrides convention, but in a funny way. things that should be offensive arent offensive when norm says them.

you can see this overriding of convention at the end of the colin cowherd interview too, when the host says they have to go. rather than shutting up, norm just keeps talking, relaxedly. or in the interview with his sister in law when his phone rings and he answers in the middle of it. the idea that some things "arent done" doesnt mean anything to him.

Norm got asked to do the celebrity roast of his friend Bob Sagat,
but Norm wasn't really a fan of "roast humor" and didn't want to
say mean things about Bob S.
Norm said he didn't know what to do and one of the producers
of the roast told him to "just be shocking".
So instead of doin' the roast humor like everyone else, Norm
decided to tell old time jokes from a joke book his Dad once gave'm
and just bombed for 5 mins.
The audience and the rest of the roasters didn't really know what
to think.
As time passed though, it became a legendary performance among
comedians.

haha that's so rad, and his response to the other comedian, too. i love how he's not afraid of awkwardness. :lbf:
well bob saget and gilbert gottfried seemed to think it was pretty funny anyway. (i love gilbert gottfried :lbf: )
seems like norm was a good friend, especially when you consider how easy it would be to roast bob saget. incidentally i used to always think bob saget was just a big gimp, but im willing to accept that he might be a cool guy if norm liked him.

Gilbert is super funny.
Have ya ever listened to his Amazing Colossal Podcast?
Kinda had the same feelin' on Bob S.
Come to find out, he's much differemt than his public image.
Bob S also directed Norm's picture Dirty Work.

Norm lived in Victoria for a little bit. (16:44)
It's a longer one, but it's pretty intriguin' if
ya got the time.
