Morrissey 'naked with cake' cover photo turned down by The Sunday Times

Episode 29 - Our nightmare week with Morrissey - The Sunday Times Magazine Podcast
How difficult is it to photograph Morrissey? Pretty difficult, it turns out. Eleanor Mills and the team pull no punches in explaining how The Smiths frontman kept our photographer waiting in New York for four days and why today's Magazine interview with the controversial singer almost completely unravelled

The Sunday Times staff discuss here the difficulties they had getting Morrissey to agree to a photoshoot for the interview published 26.11.17.

Excerpt: "We got an email saying the shoot Morrissey wants to do, is he wants to be naked except for a cake - a great big icing-covered cake - in front of his genitals..."

You sound old fashioned, and it's causing you pain. The universe doesn't care about you.

Cheer up. Have a coke.

í am, it is. í know this all too well.

í will try. Prefer pepsi.

Thank You.

You're right. These people all know each other and when the revolution comes the fake liberals should be used as shields.
I can understand not wanted to see Morrissey naked and it's possible that "in the present climate" is just a nice way to say "keep your unwanted dick pix to yourself, please." But In the context of his recent comments I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt and say that the unwanted picture would not be completely free of association from the type of thing that put Anthony Weiner in prison. In case it isn't news there he is/was the the politician and husband of top Hillary associate, a woman called Huma, btw, who just can't stop shoving the camera down his pants and sending the results to underage girls.
"Where were the parents!"
Anyway, I hate that sort of person myself but in this case I think he's at an age where someone needs to tell him to keep his clothes on.

The revolution? Bwahhh!

What revolution will that be? The creation of ex-ray goggles, or flying cars?

Also, I think Morrissey's at an age where he can make his own decisions. He doesn't need the stodgy opinions of banal old farts like you. You're just another person who's going to live and die.

Lastly, I love how you try to create some nefarious association between Anthony Wiener and Hillary Clinton.

Sweetheart, nobody cares about Hillary anymore. Trump's a sexual predator. It's mostly acceptable in politics now; just not in Hollywood because it's consumer based. Many voters want third-world style, untrustworthy smarm-lords leading them. Trump made it okay. You can't use perversion as sure a weapon anymore. The genie is out of the bottle.

You break it, you own it. Don't expect fair play in return.

Ah, the familiar rattle of a broken spirit.

You prefer Pepsi? Who in the hell prefers Pepsi? I consider that a form of self-abuse. It's all you think you deserve.

It all makes sense now.

You didn't address the class points, on both scores. It's almost as if they're having a go at poor, poor old Mozzer, and you hitch on to the first thing you can - their accents, and vilify them for their perceived class. Inverse snobbery.

Again - what has their perceived class got anything to do with anything here?

What class of person with what type of accent is best qualified to comment here?

Fair enough. You're asking a real question and I'll try to answer it honestly. I'm not Joe Frady and can't speak for him but I'll answer for myself.
It may be something of a class prejudice. Confirmation bias is real and affects us all. In my experience working with "liberals" they're actually extremely conservative. I am coming from a different perspective. I live in the US.
I think there is a relevant term we could discuss here. It's a term I hate because it's used to shut down the voice of liberals without having to actually bothering to argue or debate the discussion. That term is "politically correct." I imagine that Joe feels that "in the current climate" is "politically correct" doublespeak.
I don't know if Joe Frady is giving a kneejerk reaction to a criticism of Morrissey or not. Maybe he is. I'll leave that to him if he decides to respond.
For myself, I feel that I am extremely liberal and I come from a working class background.
I think that we can agree that the media is generally run by the upper class.
There are two liberal viewpoints here and they are contradictory. The first is that it's fine to let Morrissey pose nude with a cake covering his "genitalia." This wouldn't really bother me. It seems kind of ridiculous but so what? That's viewpoint one summarized.
The second liberal viewpoint is an example of why I said that liberals can actually be extremely conservative and self-censoring. This viewpoint says that "in the current climate" a playful photo would not be appropriate.
I did say that I understand this reasoning. One of the things Harvey Weinstein did was exposing himself to women, masturbating in front of them, and so forth.
We can all agree that a nude like Michelangelo's David is a work of art, but if the statue were holding a cake in a sort of peep show pose would it feel like something other than art?
Maybe Morrissey is just trying to have fun with the picture. He's very tone deaf as we saw in the "black on the inside" t-shirt debacle. I don't know how intentional this is or if he's just drinking most of the time and this sort of thing is his idea of a good time.
But I think Joe Frady is saying that the reasoning they're giving is ridiculous.
I'm saying that nobody really needs to see grandpa porn in the Sunday paper.
And finally, your point. There is very real class bias and it does work both ways. It does tend to be the people that are higher up the ladder, more privileged, who come up with the sort of "liberal" approach that relies on mental gymnastics such as relating Morrissey's photo idea to his recent comments.

í lied; in truth, í prefer Dr Pepper. But people can't handle the truth.

What's the worst that could happen
?

You should have written "just another person in this world."

These people literally make me vomit; ellie, ellie and matt ~ white, upper class, thickos.
the same inbred gene pool/went to same school brigade who have been running the media in blighty for the last century.
pay lip-service to diversity and open-mindeness but all know each others mothers and read the same books, see the same films, listen to the same music.
í almost thought this was some kind of armando iannucci piss-take on modern journalism.
these are the people who actually run the sunday times magazine; í genuinely find that incredible.
the fact that Morrissey gave these morons the runaround is a badge to be worn with pride.
and, pardon me for my ignorance, but how is Morrissey naked with a cupcake over his cock unacceptable "in the present climate". what the f*** has that got to do with male predatory abuse of power? #CakeToo...?

The “present climate” thing is nonsense. ...but we should all be thankful for whomever quashed this idea.

NOBODY needs to see a half-baked, cheese-stuffed sack of shit without the sack.

the fish on the right looks like he's saying "how did I get myself into this?"

Fish don't think in English.

Look who I'm correcting. Someone who said people dying violently was funny. To say you have a screw loose is to massively undersell how warped you are.

Best part is that one of the womans primary objections seems to be Morrissey is a bit out of shape and has "lot's of chest hair". In shape and less hair - let's do it! Not that it's wrong - glad she can accept her normal desires.

The man commentator is the worst. London is dead indeed. I'm not in favor for naked people on covers of magazines in general but lovely to see their hypocrisy. This horrible modern culture is normally all for it. Just taking a break for a month or two in the light of the recent exposure of their seedy side - as if we didn't already know.
