yes - he does come across as an arrogant prick.

Re: Brand New Fans Are Fun!

I had heard of the letters before, but I thought I would come to the experts to check these were it:p

He admits to liking Simple Minds!

We have to admit though that generally his views havent changed since 1980, neither has his wit...

Re: Tell me it's NOT true

Tell me it's not true that he once liked a 'Simple Minds' track. P-lease.

Or if you are too lazy to follow the link:
"Here is what burning waxings that presently turn me on (babee);
Today I died again (Simple Minds)
How I wrote elastic man (The Fall)
The end (Nico)
Frankenstein (New York Dolls)
Sweetheart Contract (Magazine)
Fantastic voyage (David Bowie)
6060-842 (B-52's)
My cheery is in Sherry (Ludus) "
I have to admit I haven't dl the song yet...

I totally disagree, it's all 'tongue in cheek' and fascinating stuff, don't you understand IRONY, or are you American?

His spelling and grammar is excellent, The 'Belligerent Ghouls' certainly knew how to teach English Language.

And what is wrong with Alive and Kicking?

No, he learnt that by reading. The only people I've met who can write coherent sentences and spell are the ones who read.

Re: Tell me it's NOT true

I admit it. I bought, at the same time as 'What Difference Does it Make?', Big Country's 'Wonderland'. Scottish rock was everywhere.

> And what is wrong with Alive and Kicking?

It's a bit 'stadium rock' for my taste.
Oh, and Andi Peters is THE most irritating TV presenter on Earth

Yes I agree reading plays an important part, but I do think education also has its role to play, especially when it comes to knowing where to use the comma or apostrophe, don't you think? I can't see that being absorbed from books alone.

I never got taught any of that at school. You tend to learn it by reading without even knowing you're learning it.

Like the site says, a must-read for any self-respecting fan!

So, get to work, newbies! Essay due by tomorrow in 50 words or less on what insights they reveal about the man.

hee hee!

Maybe its a generational thing, I am the same age as Morrissey and I think grammar was more important then...maybe I'm wrong, but in my school it was certainly the case.

let me tell you something. he's a good looking fellow, he rocks the pompadour, but even if he looked like john merrick's wrong side he'd still be as sexy as all else. nothing, and i mean NOTHING, is hotter than properly written letters and articulate attacks on one's personality. my god. i need a cold shower.

i don't care if those letters are real or not. let me live the fantasy. and what adorable scrawl!

i;ll vouch for that. mark twain said "i never let school get in the way of a good education" and that couldn't be more true. i haven't learned a thing in a classroom i couldn't have learned on my own with a book and some free time. and the way they teach literature! somebody call amnesty int'l!

Re: He admits to liking Simple Minds!

what do you mean "admit"? it's not a crime! and neither is liking the b52s!

as long as he hates spandau ballet, he's in the clear.
