"Joey Barton tries to reunite The Smiths" - The Sun

Headline in the Sun today: "Joey Barton tries to reunite The Smiths"

If it was April 1st I would think this is the best made-up headline ever.

Here is the link to go have a good chuckle (the visuals are classic as well.)

Good luck with that, Joey, but I don't see it happenning any time soon.

Whilst there seems to have been some thawing between them recently, and Johnny playing Smiths tunes and generally saying positive things about Moz - the fact is Johnny seems to be engrossed in working on a new Healers record (as evidenced by all the new songs live), whilst Morrissey is about to embark on another solo tour and trying to get his own next album up and away. Maybe in a couple of years, but they both seem at the start of their own projects right now.

There is one slight chance I can imagine that would point otherwise - and that would be if following the US tour Morrissey STILL can't get a record label he might be tempted to do a one-off reunion with Marr, just to use the resultant massive publicity and hype to boost his own solo career (let's face it - if record companies new there was a massive Smiths reunion gig in the offing and Morrissey had a new album 'waiting in the wings' to record and release around the same time, they'd be falling over themselves to offer him good record deals, because they'd be guaranteed massive sales).

But personally I'd hope if Moz and Marr ever got back together it would be for something slightly more meaningful (as in new material) rather than a career-boosting one-off live show.

Absolutely, a reunion doing a Smith greatests hits cabaret would be appalling. But new material, that would be something.

Moz only talks in faxes and I got a fax from Moz and it said:

Hi (anonymous)
Hi how are you. I t said I am Moz. It said Hello I am Moz.

I'm an eternal optimist and dreamer on this topic. I truly believe Morrissey and Marr will play live and record together again. They were just so impossibly brilliant together, and The Smiths never ended properly. It would be perfect. Never say never.

Before anyone gets into too much of a rant against either Barton or the idea, maybe take a look at one of his latest ''Tweets''

The Smiths reunion????? Someone's being blagged badly here.....#nonsense

Hopefully he'll have to make a record with Marr in order to pay his legal bills.

Surely this notion of Morrissey can't get a record deal is nonsense. More like Morrissey is holding out for a better deal.

Well, yes - obviously Morrissey could get SOME kind of record deal any time he wanted. But he wants one with 1) total creative product control 2) a massive publicity machine, billboards all over the country, Radio 1 airplay etc 3) a massive cash advance.

That's the tricky bit.

The only thing that will happen is that next year, in the year of our Lord 2012, the world will end when Manchester City become Premier League champions. It would be so them for that to happen given their eternal bad luck.

There is still time for other clubs to save the world.

when I was about 9 years old I dreamed that I was watching the world end on television. They were saying "this is Chicago" and there was a huge explosion and fire, alien tentacles, Japanese pornography and everything else. When I went to talk to the cardinal about it he took me into the rectory, and taught me how to kiss girls.

Thought you would have been hiding away for some time my Swedish rag friend. Give it a few months and you'll be supporting City - as will half of Norway, Finland, Denmark and Sweden.
There is a new order in town and this one doesnt have Barney and Peter Hook in the side.
