Henry Rollins on Moz...

also i think it would be pretty difficult to write to him on 2-13-61, unless we had some kind of time machine...

but i doubt he could read on the day of his birth.

all the numerous moz fans who wrote to the nme in the past concerning moz whenever he gets a bad review/article..isnt that the exact response those who wrote these insulting reviews/articles anticipiate?
and the letters who got printed there on their angst site...and then get the already thought out replies of the editor..theyre just taking the piss on them really
and it doesnt change a thing..
I think rollinswould anticipiate exact this response and would later have a go on one of the responses he got from this in a later spoken word performance

actually i would spare your time doing that really...

sistasheila, you have a great point there. He'd probably turn in into one of his Spoken Word shows, which, having seen two, are as funny as hell.

LOL, I have actually written to him (well, I have all of his books and of course I don't agree with everything he says but he can be damned funny.) Usually all he'll send you is a postcard back. And all he does is scrawl a few words on it anyway. Just a thought.

sounds like moz..

I wonder what kind of handwriting does he have?

Actually, I know Rollins from the old days of Black Flag in L.A., circa '78/'79, when I was a musician myself (and still am) and working with Wire, and Music Express, and guess what: HE'S GAY HIMSELF! NO JOKE! I did not see this mentioned anywhere else in the thread, but he came out years ago. If it was in the thread, I missed it, sorry. :guitar:

Errrrrrrrrrr. No. A lot of people think Rollins is gay, I mean, hell, he did a shoot for a gay porn magazine. He's into bodybuilding and writing poetry. But he's never said he's gay. He's spoken about going on dates with girls. If you read his book On The Road, he has girlfriends and he mentions girls in it. I really don't know what you're talking about saying he 'came out years ago'.

Possibly Rollins is a bisexual?

I can't find it online, but I've read Mark Simpson's interview with Rollins, in which he hits Rollins with the gay question right out of the gates. Rollins calmly denies it, but does admit that strangers often have one of two reactions to him: they think he's gay, or they think they know him from prison.

I have so little patience with Rollins that I couldn't even watch this entire clip, but I recall him speaking similarly about Peter Murphy on 120 Minutes many years ago. He loves to bash a sissy. I suppose fear of being on the other end of it is why he's devoted so much time to making his neck wider than his head.

i guess it should be obvious by my nick that i admire some of rollins' musical endeavours quite a bit - black flag is basically my all-time favourite band (although i prefer the pre-rollins era). and my impression of the guy is he likes to give people shit (or at least did), whether he really likes them or not is pretty much beside the point. if he does dislike morrissey, i find that a bit weird, because they're really quite similar in a lot of ways (from my impression of them anyway). i could really see them hanging out and getting along very well. hell, if moz grew up in d.c. and got into weightlifting and punk rock, or if rollins lived in manchester and got into oscar wilde and kitchen sink dramas, they would probably be more or less identical.

it should be noted that i remember reading a recent quote by rollins somewhere saying that he liked morrissey and found him very funny or something along those lines.

speaking of rollins, i just saw this video the other day. if you need any further proof that rollins is a pretty funny and heavy guy, then i don't know what to tell you.

mywar,
I have that video where he tells the story of Joe Cole's death. It's heartbreaking. First he's talking with Joe about how great the evening is because they're going to watch Sylvester Stallone movies and they do impersonations,( which, Rollins does very well) of Stallone, and they go get the videos, go to the store for some food, and come back and have these guys order them at gunpoint to get into Rollins's house. If you read the book, "Now Watch Him Die" he goes into that. The first half of the video I have is of Henry telling funny stories about working in the pet store with Ian MacKaye of Fugazi and the girl Rollins had that crush on, "RON DA" (Rhonda) The bit about Mr. Bun Bun and the special goldfish for that kid - very funny. I have heard him say that he does appreciate Morrissey for his business acumen, and that he may not understand him, he admires him for that.
I've seen him at 2 Spoken Word shows, a Black Flag show in '79 in L.A. and I confess to owning all of his books. Rollins is the real deal.

see i have an opinion on all of this and its kind of a combo of what's been said....
I think there is a def possibility that he's joking, but I think as much as we want to believe we can live in a world where these statements can be seen as an ironic comment on our society, not everyone will read it as joking, I thought it was rather homophobic as well, and I know language is "just language" and maybe he's trying to make us aware of this but like i said, not everyone is going to see it and think "wow, look at how he's making us aware of our langague and gender in our society..."
what's scary about what he's saying is unfortunatly in our society there is a very strong ring of truth, for those of us who are minorities, its not funny because even if i personally do think Rollins is trying to be clever I also see and more importantly feel that unfortunatly a lot of people do sound like him for real out in the world.
I actually can't bare to watch it, and not for MOrrissey's sake or anything weird like that, but for my own as a gender "different" individual or whatever you want to call me...the clip scares the hell out of me. and if that makes me a pussy to Rollins, i'd have to ask him if he knew a damn thing about being a minoritied individual, and if he doesn't then how can he presume he'd be able to be ironic about language used against them?

This is pretty ridiculous. He never once mentions homosexuality, although points for coming to rthe correct conclusion that Morrissey IS gay, which some people are still in denial about. You have to perform hula hoops of logic and artful deliberate misinterpretation to view what he saiod as somehow anti-gay. What he seemks to be saying, and what i get is that rollins doesn';t really like morose, brooding music, or people, that he's an energetic, go-for-it kinda guy and that stuff turns him off. Honestrly I would pretty much expect that from (one of) the former singer for Black Flag. Morrissey IS sort of a professional miserablist, thats' just a fact. I shoul;d also point out that throughout his career Rollins has been a consistant defender of gay rights. Moreobver, i don't thionk he really dislikes Moz that much, like that guy said, if he did, he wouldn't play the video. As supported by the quote from the other rollins thread: "I don't hate the Smiths or the Cure at all. I think -- especially Morrissey -- is very creative and brilliant. It's that downward spiral, down in the mouth thing they had going for years which I could just not leave alone. I had to take a couple of shots at it. But I hold no malice toward either party at all."
