Morrissey Central "ENNIO MORRICONE" / "MORRICONE & MORRISSEY IN ROMA" (July 6, 2020)

"Ennio Morricone, the exalted and revered Italian composer, has died aged 91 in Rome. Morricone and his orchestra played on Morrissey's album "Ringleader Of The Tormentors"."

Unknown_copy_22_klt2n6.jpg

"I was aware that Morricone had said no to U2, no to David Bowie, and no to Robbie Williams, so I was thrilled when he said Yes to me. His contributions to my 'Ringleader Of The Tormentors' album are, naturally, completely dismissed by the jargon jugglers, but they burst and thrive in my heart forever. In reflection of the happiest days imaginable, I say the temporary parting of ar'ri've'der'ci to he who gave all to the greatness of Italia."

Honest to God Johnny was taking part in a secret gig.
I was there along with Skinny, Surface, Barleycorn, 12”, Nuts, Brummie, think little benny as well.
Johnny was really taking the piss out of Pansy Pete that night LOL.

Wait a minute, this was 2005. Wasn't Johnny Marr playing with Modest Mouse around that time and living in Portland, OR?

Well done Mayfly, you certainly know your onions, bravo:clap:
However he was pulling a ”Phil Collins Live Aid” double gig :guitar::cool:
Hence the Police escort.

I didn't pay much attention to ROTT when it came out, but I have been listening to it on a regular basis lately. It is more upbeat and sonically versatile than YATQ, and the stronger tracks make it worthwhile. Dear God s certainly one of the more memorable songs in the Morrissey discography. I can relate to Morrissey feelng proud that this collaboration occurred, even if for Morricone, it was just one out of a large multitude of projects he was involved in (hence his remark that he didn't remember Morrissey).

I rarely play ROTT from beginning to end, the last 3 or 4 songs feel like fillers to me, so I am not necessarily disagreeing with.

As long as you remember that the Police siren on track 4, Youngest Was The Most Loved was none other than Top Motorbike Cop Hero Officer BARONE RAFFAELE that‘s all that matters. :thumb:

Did Melvis say something about Ennio? ...the man who was stricken from his album like the rest of his fodder? Has Moorissey made another late-stage poop?

Never mind this bullshit. Do you 14 seriously enjoy the Pat Boone nonsense, or are you just taking the piss? Asking for a friend.

I wonder who got the short straw and had to tell Morricone that 95% of his contributions had been cut?:

Whoever it was would be dying inside - telling a legend that you basically auditioned his work & decided it wasn't right - is circle of hell stuff.

It would be nice if someone could remix the EM songs and put his contributions back in.

Agree.

I don't know why they didn't create two versions & put out the Morricone one separately - getting publicity & tapping into Morricone's buyers.

NEWSFLASH.

Amazon have just delivered a shitload of Ennio Morricone vinyl LP‘s and 10 big (non specific coloured) Sharpie marker pens to Bowden Bett’s.

If I was a betting man I would wager that Steve is up to no good again signing other artists work for profit.
Eyes peeled on his tatty merch shop kids :thumb:

Well, there's the fanmade edit of Dear God Please Help Me that put the orchestral arrangement over the studio recording.
Unless by "someone" you mean someone official. I don't think that's going to happen.

I believe "God" was the only song on Ringleader Morricone worked on?

I believe the answer to that is fairly simple: because Morrissey didn't want that.

At the time Steve thought it would be a master stroke to get the Morricone name on board but only use a tiny snippet.
To get the “Wow look at big time Stevie, rubbing shoulders with Ennio Morricone“

Steve thought up the theory that if they scrapped Ennio’s work it would make him look “Worldwide Domination Untouchable A List Big Shot”
Something the likes of U2, Williams, Bowie etc could only dream of.

He was always hatching plans like this to get that number one slot he so craved.

He now lives back on the outskirts of Manchester with his Mum surrounded in controversy. He can be seen some days at the local shops purchasing Ham, cheese and bread in his flat cap and oversized flared trousers.
To put things into perspective there is a Bronze statue of Frank Sidebottom in the village of Timperley (Manchester)
There will NEVER be a statue of Steve anywhere in Manchester even if it was made of plasticine.
Keep dreaming big shot Stevie.

“Steven are you up ? I’ve made you some cheese on toast. It’s your favourite, Kerrygold Dubliner and a nice cup of tea”
LOL

Yes - I can believe that's it.

He does himself no favours.
I think it's possible that he... just didn't like the finished mix with the full orchestra as much as he thought he would?

I mean, he said it himself, he was never a fan of Morricone's prior to working with him. He said the only thing he knew was the theme from Once Upon A Time In The West... which seems highly unlikely, but okay.

Gawd. Embarrassing all round.
Huh? Embarrassing that he wasn't familiar with his work?
Idk it's better to be honest about it than to pretend to be big fan, no? I don't think western movies (Italian or otherwise) are Morrissey's cup of tea.
I'm sure he knew some of the other themes though, because you can't really avoid them even if you tried.
