    Morrissey A-Z: "Scandinavia"

Eureka! Perhaps Scandinavia is simply about Morrissey's love of Nordic Noir? This would explain some of the ambiguous lines...

Morrissey A-Z: "Seasick, Yet Still Docked"

It seems like I rocked the boat yesterday with my interpretation of Scandinavia, so it is fitting that today we are Seasick, Yet Still Docked. A beautiful, melancholic plod - not one of my all time favourites, but a very strong song nontheless. I want to spend the day listening to 'Beethoven...

    Morrissey A-Z: "Scandinavia"

I wish it was the former and hope it is not the latter, but the ambiguity (of this and so many of Morrissey's lyrics) leaves this one, for me, open to interpretation. Of course, if I was from Svandinavia I would champion this song a great deal more!

    Morrissey A-Z: "Scandinavia"

Well, perhaps it's my filthy mind, but I read it as a veiled reference to rimming! (Particularly as it comes right before the 'Stab me in your own time' line.)

    Morrissey A-Z: "Scandinavia"

An enjoyable and erring on the bombastic romp, Scandinavia is a strong number with some great lines. The song is marred for me somewhat by a few (forgive the pun) tongue in cheek lines which make me cringe a little; lines referring to 'eating the soil' and to being 'stabbed' are clearly laid...

    Morrissey A-Z: "Satellite of Love"

A perfectly acceptable live cover of a good song, but there is nothing much here to get too excited about. In the bizarre discographic world of Morrisey, I believe that Satellite of Love was Morrissey’s last (to date) 12” single? Of course, there was no need for it to be released as a physical...

Morrissey A-Z: "Satan Rejected My Soul"

In 1991 there was a place in hell reserved for Morrissey. What on earth did he do over the following 6 years to be barred by the Prince of Evil himself? I suppose 'Southpwaw Grammar' didn't go down well in the Underworld?

Likewise- I have an order number and a confirmation email... Hopefully we both (and others) will be fortunate!

    Morrissey A-Z: "Roy's Keen"

OK, Roy’s Keen is not the greatest Morrissey single but, in fairness, of all the songs on 'Maladjusted' few would have got a great deal of airplay back in 1997, when such things, presumably, mattered. What other choice could Island have gone with? (Trouble Loves Me would have been my choice, but...

    Morrissey A-Z: "Redondo Beach"

I always had a soft spot for this one, likely down to playing it (and all of the ‘Live At Earls Court’ album) very loudly in the car for the bulk of 2005 as I drove up and down the M4 for a horrible weekly commute. The album came out on the Monday and I got married on the Saturday, an event...

What song are you listening to right now?

I know the song well, but had never seen this performance. I love how Dave Wakeling strolls out onto the stage in Black Tie, the epitome of cool! The gorgeous Asian girl beside the presenter at the beginning of the video is an added bonus. Can't Get Used To Losing You by The Beat

    Morrissey A-Z: "Oboe Concerto"

A slow, mysterious number, Oboe Concerto certainly isn’t the best closer to one of Morrissey’s studio albums, but it is by no means the worst either. The music may be a little slight, but I do find that the plodding bass line and sonic flourishes do help lubricate the earworm… ‘and it’s stuck in...

What song are you listening to right now?

I haven't seen this video in over 20 years. 20 years wiser and it sent a shiver down my spine... My Way by Sid Vicious

Morrissey A-Z: "Now My Heart Is Full"

One of the greatest Morrissey songs of all time, nay, one of the greatest songs of all time, full stop. A faultless masterpiece. As @Mozmar said, ‘I just can’t explain so I won’t even try to.’
