Just to confirm that on VH2 on Tuesday 26th of October (aired previously on Oct. 23), they will be screening a Smiths gig that was filmed in Germany during the height of their powers. It is on at 22:00 for 1 hour and 20 mins.

This is very exciting as i was not aware that any of the music channels held such footage. Why so long to show the adoring fans?

Anyway, enjoy!!

  • Pretty early concert. Funny to see them repeating songs during their encore. Do any bands do that nowadays?

  • Preceded by a "video history" of The Smiths and Morrissey from 7.30 to 9.

  • For the record...Germany wasn't exactly at the "height of their powers" in the '80's. ;)

  • 'Tis funny...
A little while back I sent in a story about a show on vh1 classic (in America) called Headline Act which was to feature Johnny Marr commentary on the smiths including videos and my story was rejected.

Oh well, I'm not pissed or anything just thought I should mention it.
    :-P

  • it was quite a boring gig. No stage invasions, and it sounded very similar to just listening to the record. Morrissey appeared bored at times, and the Germans appeared bored throughout. Morrissey's hilarious one-legged dancing helped ease the pain though.

  • I recently purchased this concert on DVD whilst spending a week in Edinburgh. It was a DVDr, so if anyone is interested, they will probably have more. The shop I purchased this DVD from is called HogsHead Music - it is near The Bridges

  • Did anyone notice in the encore when Morrissey got Marr to take centre stage while he stood in the corner suddenly Morrissey's performance went up a notch and he got much more intense?

Of course perhaps it was the intensity of the song (These Things Take Time) but I found it quite interesting to see.

  • Caught the repeat last night.
Never seen that gig before and looked a nice small venue. Would have been great to catch them live at a place like this before the bigger gigs kicked in.
Amusing that the encore was 2 songs repeated, wish bands would have the courage to give that to the crowd these days.
