Morrissey was heavily featured during a profile of Chrissie Hynde tonight (Friday) on BBC 4. The leader of the Pretenders, who have sold millions of records since they formed in the late 70's, is a Vegetarian, staunch supporter of PETA & passionately opposed to the mistreatment of animals. Morrissey is shown several times, immaculately dressed in a dark shirt, dark blazer dark denims, & you guessed it, dark shoes, sitting in an armchair in a hotel room from where he makes several comments in support of Chrissie's involvement in Animal Rights campaigns, as well as giving his own opinions on the subject, such as : "She will go to any lengths at all to help animals & that to me is absolutely remarkable & heroic & God bless her" "There is nothing as controversial as eating animals, as demanding that animals die just because you feel slightly peckish" "If you go into an abbatoir, it's exactly like the German atrocities, it's exactly like The Holocaust" From his appearance, i'd say the interview was recent. Anyway, the programme wasn't listed in my TV Guide, so it was great to stumble across it. --- NIcky's Cousin also writes: Morrissey appeared on the BBC 4 television programme, "Pop & Politics - Chrissie Hynde" on Friday evening in the UK (1st October). There was basically a couple of snippets of an interview with Morrissey saying how much he respected Chrissie Hynde for her support of PETA & her animal rights activism. The programme also featured the audio of 'Meat Is Murder' against a backdrop of pictures showing animal cruelty. It was an excellent programme & I would definitely recommend people to look out for it if it should be repeated. Morrissey was, ofcourse, extremeley eloquent & made some very interesting remarks.

I'm hoping for more appearances in this series (Score:1)
So I shall be watching. The programme was well made and provocative - eminently watchable so there won't be much lost if the others are as good even if Moz doesn't reappear.
Paul Morely was irritating by stressing how he thought Chrissie Hynde is extreme and making out that she was like some poor, fading star who had to find a cause. Saying that he doesn't eat animals because he 'hates animals' was strange. I suppose it was funny at the time. Morrissey made his points very eloquently.

Vegetarianism causes all manner of health problems in people (like Morrissey) who don't think out their dietary intake in sufficient depth, predisposing to vitamin deficiencies, a lack of "wellbeing," poor immune function and regular infections. Vehans can even develop very serious neurological conditions. Besides this, meat tastes fantastic, it really does.

It needed *not* be an unaffordable/unobtainable diet; governments are at fault. They spend billions of dollars feeding tons of grain to animals that they could instead be feeding to humanity. Read the animal rights or health-related literature on it, it's all there in black and white. Agriculture is being abused to feed animals that are also pumped up with hormones forcing them to *plump* up/produce more eggs, etc., even faster than what mother nature intended. All these mass-produced animals also produce global emissions of methane gas that is ruining the earth's atmosphere = greenhouse gas.
Meat is expensive to produce and to purchase; most non-meat items would not be costly were it not for the government's corrupted idea on how to supposedly feed the planet. Fast food is an evil empire as it forces the *ignorant* poor to have no other option but to buy into the belief that they too can afford "to put meat on the table"...Oh, but how sad to see a life destroyed to sell a 99 cent hamburger; truly an insult to any living being!

All the vegetarians I know, including myself, practically never get sick while all the carnivors get the flu every year.
Meat eaters who claim that it is right to eat meat are threaten by vegetarianism as they know it is the ideal dietary and ethical lifestyle but don't want to admit it because it would just mean they would have to admit wrongdoing.
If Moz gets sick alot it is not because he is a vegetarian but because he's old, heavy, tired and not used to touring..maybe he'll learn his lesson and shape up.

I can't understand vegetarians who wear leather(or even fur) either, there is no morale argument for it. What I would say, however, is that at least vegetarians who are wearing leather are killing less animals than meat eaters who wear leather.

I'm reposting this on the main string as so many people are against Morrissey standing up and speaking what he beliveves in. If anyone thinks Morrissey is not an intelligent person I would say you have not listened to his music. So if you think he is a smart person I ask you to please give one moment of objectivity to this issue. Meat truly is murder. Murder to a sentient being and murder to your own body.
It very much compares to the holocaust except it is much WORSE.
WORSE in that it is indiscriminate. All animals get a chance to be tortured and die. Some lucky ones like cows, pigs and chickens will have it in mass while 'delicacies' like pheasant, bison and goose will die only when the folks with fat pockets in the west get a craving for murder. Oh and if you are a dog, cat, small fish etc then this hypocritical clause takes effect and you are spared. It's perfectly sane to eat a cow and pet a dog right?
WORSE in that it has been going on longer by thousands of years. This is not another sick blip in the history of the human decent into psychosis, this is a long term display of violence, pain and suffering.
WORSE in that almost all modern people identify the holocaust as 'wrong' while McDonalds and KFCs open everyday around the world.
The holocaust is in no way to be brushed aside. People did die in mass at the hands of a "Bush"like leader who whipped his people into a murderous frenzy using nationalism, anti-someone-else's-religion , fear and empiracal desire (sound familiar?). I do not belittle that horendous event but I'll be damned if people can not see even the slightest connection to the animal holocaust because they themselves are too weak to try living without murdering. You came into this world as one life. If I had the power to put the number of how many lives you have already destroyed on this planet maybe you would think differently.
But I'm just a raving activist. Don't mind me. Go back and have those chicken nuggets for lunch with the flesh of 27 animals on average per nugget. Or better yet have a hot dog. Or maybe call it a light day in the killing fields and have a nice piece of solid steak so only one sentient being had to die (well for that meal at least).
Try vegetarianism....it's simple, delicious, you'll feel better, have more constant energy, balance your weight, lower your chances of having heart disease or cancer massively and YOU'LL NO LONGER HAVE BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS.
Very seriously...a long time poster here with respect for almost all of you,
Please reconsider,
Moz Is God
