My friend Lorna swears on her very soul that she saw Morrissey in Manchester last week. He was with Linder and another man with a greasy quiff. Horror of horrors - he was talking into a hands free mobile phone!!! At least he's not frying his brain cells!!!

It was outside a restaurant called 'Reform', a haven for socialites, celebs, and of course indie Gods! Lorna saw some people go up to him and just stand there gawping while he was talking on the phone, then he went into the restaurant. He was wearing a grey suit jacket and old levis. She was quaking with excitment when she called me just after so I believe her. All I can say is, get back to LA Mr. Morrissey, you've rehearsals to do!

  • The man with the greasy quiff was probably journalist Michael Bracewell, a friend of Moz and Linder's chap who has written about Moz in some of his books and once interviewed him for The Times in 1999.

  • I know this is off topic but I guess my story wasn't interesting enough for the news page so I have to put it somewhere:
I was walking down Wilmslow Road in Manchester on Saturday afternoon, and I heard "Everyday Is Like Sunday" blasting from the window of a car stopped at the lights, and when I looked over I realised it was Jim Glennie, the bass player from the band James. Obviously I had to get him to sign something for me and the only thing I had was a fiver so I ran up to the car to ask him to sign it before the lights changed. It was pretty funny, as I got close I noticed he was singing along really loudly and he looked kind of embarrassed when I appeared in the window! I only had a second to talk to him but he seemed really nice and when I said 'So I see you like Moz then?' he smiled and said he was a big fan. I said me too, and asked him to sign my note which he did even though the lights changed and the car behind wasn't very happy about waiting. Doesn't make up for getting knocked out of the World Cup, but at least it gave me something to smile about!

  • Morrissey spending more time in england [dublin],
    the country where he belongs.
    I'm not anti-LA.
      I guess Morrissey's just
for business in England, as already mentioned
seeking a suport band [strange, cause it are
USA dates, so why not a USA support band?]
So I hope our beloved Man is making arangements
for Uk gigs and/or [hopefully] european dates.

And maybe, maybe, maybe he was there for talks
about a recorddeal, or am I daydreaming again?

  • Why sound so surprised to find out that he's been talking on a cellular?
I don't understand what the big deal over that is.
Is he not supposed to evolve technologically with the rest of the world?
Don't tell me you'll stop being a fan if you find out he's got himself a CD player!!!

  • when exactly was he supposed to have been there? last week doesn't make sense as he was seen in Dublin around the 14th of June and then again on the 21st. plus I can't really picture him with a mobile of any kind, and surely not a hands free one?!

  • ...oh now my heart is full..

By all means get back and play your gigs where the sun shines in the US.. but please come home and feel the street and the heartbeats of our lives that you so succinctly put to music with the Smiths..
