Morrissey offered award

Trinity College Dublin has offered Morrissey an "outstanding contribution to music award" (his first ever such award) which stands as the University Philosophical Society's Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage.
Morrissey has commented: "My initial reaction is to feel undeserving ... my contribution to music being such that no record label on the planet has either the nerve or the imagination to sign me!"
The University Philosophical Society has recorded the presence of many remarkable members including Oscar Wilde, Bram Stoker and Samuel Beckett. Other past recipients of the Gold Medal in their respective fields include Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.

Skinny was wrong anyway, it's not hubris, it's the usual self-deprecation. You wonder why the likes of Skinny bother modding this site given their evident opposition to and mischaracterisation of Morrissey's every word and deed. Why didn't Tseng and Co take over PJLM, then they could have lived in a past that suited them for eternity, untroubled by any of Morrissey's recent actvity.
No, it is petulance. He simply does not have the capacity to say "Thank you". He turns any compliment or kind word into "woe is me". Me, me, me. It is tiresome. He travels the same ground over and over, the same themes again and again. I am currently watching a special about Michael Jackson. There are many similarities. A "humasexual" existence, a childlike outlook on life, an inability to accept the reality of life. Both built their own world to suit their desires. To complete the circle...enter Morrissey's new album "Neverland". Tell me that doesn't make sense.

:D Do you actually hear yourself talking? You are right the next one behind Skinny who would be better placed on another fansite who focuses on the past. Oh and "He turns any compliment or kind word into ..." What compliments and kind words? There are some, of course, but you have to search for them. Another thing I have to point out is that Moz knows EXACTLY how he is. He knows his weaknesses. He knows his obsessions. He already lives with it for 56 years now, you know. He knows exactly who he is. He doesn't hide it, he lives with it, which is kind of admirable. Where others do consider and mmmh and errr, he just spurts everything out, completely unfiltered. People always think it's a lack of selfawareness but there tons of quotes who proof the opposite. For example "The most insane thing I do is never to bask in attainments. This is wrong, I know, because if you achieve then you should allow yourself to enjoy, but I greet each day as if nothing has ever happened for the good. It keeps me level, but it’s obviously insane. I don’t put this answer forward as a matter of logic. It isn’t." HE JUST GIVES A SHIT. He is who he is. To get back to your comparison with Michael Jackson, I'm not sure you could say any of the above about him.

I have a circle of five friends from Israel. When they heard the news about Moz playing in Israel they were so touched by it even though they aren't fans of him. They were so glad that there was at least someone who didn't take away some joy from people's lifes (which is odd to say about Moz). Their joy was heartwarming to observe. They assured me that the Israeli people would be so grateful and that gratitude would fully show at the concert. And what can I say, they did show it big time. The concert was great. I don't know if I've ever heard the phrase "Thank you so much for coming" so many times in my life.
i mean, Morrissey only cares about animal (altho rn he pretends he cares about police brutality), so i don't know why are you surprised. I don't think he cares about Palestina and all the damage Israel has done :)

Re: TTY: Morrissey Offered Award

Sometimes I think it would be more appropriate if Skinny would start a fansite about Johnny Marr because it is obvious that he admires Johnny far more than Moz. Of course it would have to be an open discussion forum just like morrissey-solo because all the other Johnny Marr fansites have one capitol mistake ... they are sycophantic. A word which is constantly used to attack True-To-You but these sites are, apart from the fact that they are better made of course, equally guilty in that regard. But such an open forum won't exist for Marr because ... well, you can do that to Morrissey but not to that TOP BLOKE Johnny Marr.
why some people get so mad if they admire Marr more or equally than Morrissey? to me, The Smiths were the greatest thing ever and i could never completely hate Moz because of that, but i like Johnny better than Morrissey as a human being, sorry to say. Cue the then why are you here question? I'm here because of my love for The Smiths :)

He simply does not have the capacity to say "Thank you"
This sentence is pure ignorance and proofs the fact that most people (even true fans) have build such an irremovable image of Moz in their heads that they ignore everything else. Let me show you this ...

"THANK YOU to everyone who has added new videos on You Tube to support World peace is none of your business."
"China especially is refusing to sell Canadian seal meat. THANK YOU, China!"
"THANK YOU to Blondie, our new friends."
"We tender and render VERY SINCERE THANKS to you for our triumphant March tour."
"THANK YOU for being there, and for showing such vigorous and loud support."
"THANK YOU for an incredible tour of South America."
"THANKS also to the police in Peru, Brazil and Colombia who escorted me around (as custodians, I should add.) I AM GRATEFUL."
"VERY SPECIAL THANKS to those of you who - incredibly! - follow the tours from country to country. THANKS also to Kristeen Young for supporting throughout South America, which is remarkable considering that both of her legs and both arms are made of unusually soft plywood."
"Anyway, THANK YOU for reading this, and I shall see some of you in far-off places."
"THANK YOU for a fantastic US-Mexico tour. I AM ANCHORD, DELIGHTED, AND PALE WITH GRATITUDE."
"I have the most magnificent live crew on the planet. If I said my THANKS forever it would not be long enough."
"THANK YOU also to Kristeen Young for dragging her make-up case up and down life's highways once again."
"THANK YOU to drummer Eric Louis Gardner for guiding us through our recent tour. I am pleased to announce that our new drummer is Anthony Burulcich."
"Once again, all I can offer is the sore throat of THANKS to everyone who bought tickets and who supported us along the way."
"Firstly, THANKS to Julia for allowing me to write something for TTY. I wanted to THANK everyone who had turned up - or turned out - for the Ringleader tour; very appreciated by all of us. I know many of you traveled extensively, and in return, all we can do is our best - which, believe it or not, is what we do. So, THANKS to all of you."
"THANKS, as always, for the military rigor of the band; the best yet, the most enjoyable yet; they magnify me and I'm honored."
"THANKS to the mesmerizing Kristeen Young, and also to Sons and Daughter and Tiger Army and The Boyfriends for filling in the gaps."
"THANKS as always to Julia for facing all of those check-ins and checkouts so squarely and bravely; I honestly have no idea what could possibly make it worth it."
"What I may risk calling our best tour ever ... has now ended, and my written words of THANKS to all who came along to watch and listen are strong enough to burn a hole through the North Pole. It is gratifying to have so much support around the world, and the drone of my repetitive THANKS could somehow never say enough."
"My DEVOTIONAL THANKS to Boz Boorer, Jesse Tobias, Matthew Ira Walker, Gustavo Manzur and Mando Lopez."
"VERY SPECIAL THANKS to those who travelled to a great number of the shows."
"EXPLOSIVE THANKS to the websites and magazines who have voted World peace is none of your business as the best album of 2014."
"Finally, THANK YOU to Anna Calvi for opening our nights with such supreme Joan of Arc punch and finesse."
"On these last days of the old year, I THANK everyone who attended the 2009 concerts."
"Small and bowed, I offer you my ETERNAL THANKS, and my hopes for a steady 2010, full of good grace and no darkness."
"THANK YOU to everyone present at both Brooklyn (New York) and Melbourne (Australia) during recent weeks for two of the best nights of what might charitably be termed my "career"."
"As the first part of our tour concludes, we express OVER-EMOTIONAL THANKS to everyone who attended the shows. It has been fantastic for us, and it brings a new sense of accomplishment for which, again and again, we THANK YOU."

Jake Walters: "When he likes something, he really lets you know." (I suppose he will say thank you then)

THANK YOU to Johnny Marr

THANK YOU to the fans

Yeah, the man is clearly incapable of saying THANK YOU. And surely you do understand that we don't see and hear every THANK YOU he privatly utters, do you?

Thank you for that. It is an interesting comparison. Both were/are visionary entertainers and talents. Michael with his dancing, Morrissey with his charismatic presence. Yet both couldn't/can't get out of their own way. Michael with drugs and Moz with his words. I think with Moz it comes down to a coddled childhood with a loving mother then quickly famous and rich and coddled again. His view on life is through bedroom and limo windows. Oh wait...that could apply to both as well. Sad really. But we are the beneficiaries of their isolation.

You like many others take things out of context. My statement was about something specific. Not all the generalities spewed above. Please follow closely as you seem to be challenged in this regard. He CANNOT accept compliments, awards, etc. without twisting them into something cynical and desperate. That simple.

Overheard in Bloomington, IL: Dude, Morrissey is so cool. He doesn't even have a record label. He doesn't give a shit and does things his way. He is so anti-establishment.

Overheard in Higginsbottom United, England: Blykey, Morrissey is so blood wicked. He doesn't even have a record label. He is such an anarchist.

It's called marketing, so you will buy his concert tickets.

It's actually quite amusing to see what twisted brains some people have. But I guess that is how it goes. You are not longer interested in Moz The Singer and instead of walking away and listen to your old records and watching old concert footage you stick around trying to analyse him as a human being. A human being you don't know on a personal level. Moz may have his problems, as almost everyone has. There may be a kind of isolation and loneliness BUT to compare him with Michael Jackson who's fortune, sucess, fame, family disfunction and social situation was of such an enormous extent is far-fetched and crass. Moz, despite many people's constant shouts of how rich he is, is light years away from Michael Jackson. That must be clear for everyone.

I followed very closely but you seem to be incapable of accepting that maybe your wording isn't always that clear, so that people constantly don't understand you, or as you put it "take things out of context". Show me the footage or the text in which exactly he twisted his Ivor Novello Award into something cynical and desperate. He just accepted it and held a short and sweet speach. That's it. Apart from that, the TTY statement doesn't say that he accepted the award. It has just been offered to him, apparently. PLEASE FOLLOW CLOSELY AS YOU SEEM TO BE CHALLENGED IN THIS REGARD.

Given Merkel's behaviour towards Greece (which Morrissey claims to support in their struggle against international fascist bank creditors) I am surprised he didn't tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine.

TCD is the Irish Establishment and awarding Morrissey this trinket is entirely predictable, part of their brand management. His wonky views on Irish history as expressed in 'Irish Blood, English Heart' and 'Mountjoy' reinforce an entirely predictable MOPE narrative (most oppressed people ever). He courts the entire pathetic discredited fake-rebel narratives of 1916 and beyond and has said nothing to challenge the 100 year Reich of the clerical-fascist First Irish Republic. Even 'Children In Pieces' only arrived AFTER the eruption against religious privilege in Irish society. He is a harmless Plastic Paddy, to be trotted out as & when it suits the Irish Establishment who are very good at 'claiming' talent for Ireland, usually after having expelled or forced it out in the first place. Expect Wayne Rooney to get an award too. Given the unresolved horror of #TuamBabies , being 'Irish' is nothing to be proud of. But Morrissey is the ideal Plastic Paddy rebel. He disowned 'Patrick' at the outset, then courted his heritage when he wanted to add another grievance/chip on his shoulder to add to all the other bullshit. There is much to admire about Irish history and culture, but until Irish society, especially TCD, stops telling lies and handing out meaningless awards as a sop, then there is no hope. Merkel has made sure that Ireland effectively no longer exists as a Sovereign country. If UCD had any bollix they'd rescind her award and denounce her for insisting that Irish politicians submit their budgets to her officials before the details are discussed in the Dail. The real Plastic Paddies have always sat in the Dail and the Sinead. Morrissey, needless to say, prefers not to engage with the nitty-gritty of this failed state, now a supplicant satrapy of Brussels, Paris and Berlin, and still under the morbid influence of Rome with regard to women's rights even if the gays have given them the middle finger. 800 years of being under the thumb of the English then British, then bending and spreading for Rome, now Merkel's prison bitch. Who would want an award from UCD under these circumstances? Who on earth would want any award that's being given to Angela Merkel? She rose through the ranks of East Germany, a failed state, and today is actively engineering the wreckage of Greece. UCD, as part of the Irish Establishment are silent on this outrage, preferring to foist yet more bogus 'Irish Mind' crap on the world, this time reaching out to the imagined Diaspora to claim Morrissey as 'Irish' when he is hybrid. His contribution to 'music' is negligible. I assume they wish to honour his sometimes excellent but often trite and banal lyricisms. As they do not specify, we cannot know. Nor should we care.

best wishes

This story is beautiful. I don't know so much about the Palestine and Israel conflict but I despise when artist refuse to play in Israel. Music should know no boundaries. People in the audience can have a vast array of opinions. Artist denouncing complete countries is a sham and sweeps underservingly people in a box. In the end is about the artist and audience coming together and showing how and reciving the music that has affected them so much. Appreciation in a complete consensus.

I hope your friends enjoyed the concert greatly
Perhaps you are unaware that Morrissey has denounced 'Canada' because of his revulsion at their seal cull-kill? However, he happily plays Ireland, despite it being the main provider of beef and butter to the McDonalds empire of Torture/Slaughter Corpsetarian 'food' in the UK.

Israel tries to distract attention away from it's outrageous behaviour towards Palestine by trumpeting its liberal attitude towards sexual difference and animal rights activism. Whilst that liberalism is welcome, we must realise that there is a fist inside that velvet glove and any government that destroyed people's lives on the scale that the Israelis did to Palestinians last year is not to be trusted. If the extreme religious right in Israel gain power, the much trumpeted liberalism will vanish overnight. Being kind to non-human animals does not excuse you from kindness to human animals. In fact, the fate of non-human animals depends on concern for both. And I've yet to hear Morrissey express a view on Kosher slaughter rituals when in Israel.

Morrissey, of course, is silent on these issues because: keys to Tel Aviv or whatever that bauble was they threw his way.

You openly 'despise' anyone who disagrees with your views on music boycotts then conclude with the usual waffle about 'music bringing people together'. Let's all sing the chorus of "We Are The World" *rollseyes*

If you find him so tiring, then why are you on this site? really? do you like to be tired?? Who is the masochistic "woe is me" individual in this situation??

What still confuses me a bit is the slightly peculiar phrasing - "offered award;" is it just more commonplace in the UK to say that as opposed to "Trinity College Dublin has honored Morrissey etc." or "Morrissey to receive etc."? I can partly understand if he hasn't got the award yet, I suppose; but it's still peculiar to me. My first reaction was to be reminded of that TTY post when he was "invited to appear on The Archers" and didn't make any comment other than being "fascinated by the offer."
