Morrissey Central Sky Sports apologise after libellous comment about Morrissey is aired during Sunday Supplement live broadcast - London Evening Standard

Geoff Shreeves was forced to apologise on behalf of Sky Sports after a libellous comment about Morrissey was aired during the live broadcast of Sunday Supplement.

Excerpt:

With presenter Shreeves and his four-man panel of reporters live streaming from home, the comment was heard at the start of the show.

A conversation was heard between members of the panel, before a libellous comment about the iconic frontman of The Smiths was heard.

The show continued, but following its first advertisement break, Shreeves apologised for the comments made by the Telegraph’s chief football writer, Sam Wallace.

Shreeves said: "At the start of this of this program a brief private conversation was unintentionally broadcast. It was not meant for broadcast and any conversation does not reflect the views of Sky Sports."

Guardian in another race row today that won't go anywhere but would be have been added to Moz's charge list if he'd said it & went home instead socialising (which is his actual crime).

Watching the Left eat its own testicles, especially over the past 5 years, has been very sad to watch. Up is down, Left is right, thoughts are conspiracies and Morrissey is racist.

You're KILLING people without testicles & people who like eating their own testicles... ***

***call out thread that lasts for days.

Any Moz fans should refuse to participate in this thread as we all know how it's gona drag on for days with page after page of utter garbage....stuff the haters, Viva Moz!!!

Skinny you twat, the APOLOGIZED for being wrong! they didnt even need to get sued. :swear

CONTROVERSIAL (AKA TRUE) WORDS SPOKEN ON SKY SPORTS

Free speech, f***er. Everybody gets it, and as far as Libel goes, I would say drag it in front of a judge.
It's about time Steve was called devious, truculent, unreliable, and after examining the evidence, racist.
He can write another dramatic spoken word piece called "Justice just came in my end."
problem was that is was broadcast....a big no, no...to untold number of audience members...they might as well start looking to get the check book out....

I keep saying, I don't care if Morrisseys racist. Because whenever anyone mentions racism, you have all the shouting and indignation, but nothing comes of it. He should have been hung by now, if it was all so bad. I feel he's been ill advised, and unguarded, but I can't see that he's done anything that would warrant him being hauled into a court of law. He has to live with himself. I'm a gay man, I've faced prejudice all my life, irrespective of where I come from. I'd rather Morrissey had steered clear of the issue and kept his views to himself. It's an issue he should be above. It's an issue that's rapidly running its course. It's been disputed to high heaven. Some people are racist, others aren't. It doesn't matter. It's how you treat people at the end of the day, and Morrissey's never advocated violence. I think, from now on, he should keep his mouth shut, and for f*** sake, be known for something other than racial politics.
That's all well and good, but would the world even notice him? What would the press write about? His music? He's not even selling much of that. It's over. The ashes are all about, could one notice them.

Such a silly statement mate, even for you. Even more stupid than saying a person is 'cancelled', what the f*** does that even mean BTW?I've yet to see an old bandmate, an employee of a record company or any reasonable acquaintance say that Moz was a racist, not one! I think they would have found someone who knew him better than Billy Bragg by now, don't you?. It's not like Moz has been around 5 minutes is it? He's been around enough people for enough time. Yet still, no one who knows him well or reasonably well supports the claims...makes you wonder doesn't it?
YOUR LOSS JEW BOY

You do not get it...they could have inserted your name...who no one absolutely cares about or notices and even you would have a pay day....

I get your point entirely. But does he? A sad end to a promising career. Also, I don't have a long and public record of disturbingly racist soundbites and dog whistles in my wake, so I feel like I'd have a pretty easy day of it in court.

He's not said very much. It gets amplified by people outraged that he's not on the same page as them. He's not on the same page as anyone.

Yes a scary trend has begun where a person can be ‘cancelled’ or ‘deleted’ if they don’t fit in with the mainstream line as if they are a spelling error or a tired tv sitcom. What next people should be physically removed and erased as well? It no longer matters whether you have broken any laws everything is conducted by twitter-trial. Recently Jonathan Ross appeared on a BBC show where he claimed he hasn’t cancelled Morrissey...yet. Sad when even a great broadcaster like Jonathan Ross is adopting this mental mentality.

Hardly the end. The media have been waging this war and misrepresenting Morrissey as a racist since Bengali in Platforms and all that was 1988. The story is old...etc

Well indeed. Firstly it would not be libel, it would be slander. And if he wants to take these people to court for airing these views publicly, I say let him get on with it. He wouldn't have a leg to stand on, there's an awful lot of corroborating material out there, not least Fat Gay Vegan's excellent collected evidence. It would be amusing to watch.
You must be easily amused.

He should have the confidence to sell for what he excels at. His voice is still there. There are so many singers who have lost their voice in their later years. He doesn't appear to have succumbed. He does need another selling point though. I don't know what that could be. He's an old man now and he's running out of options. Perhaps if he could look inside himself and find something that's sincere and true. It's up to him to find it. I'm sure it's there and he could have the inventiveness to make it sell. He's got to sit down and think 'outside the box' again, as he did in his early days. Perhaps make a virtue of being old.

All he has to do is go back on the showbiz media circuit - which he's avoiding because I think he is genuinely socially anxious & hates it. But he's STILL managing to cause a fuss without it. Which is remarkable.
