Pet Shop Boys' Chris Lowe has written a song for a new musical production of Martin Sherman's play "Bent". The production is to debut at London's Trafalgar Studios from September 22nd on. "Bent" was the first play to point out that thousands of homosexuals were sent to Nazi concentration camps. Before this was a well-guarded secret. Even other survivors didn't want to accept the truth as they felt that if homosexuals were said to have also been victimized by the Nazis, that would devalue the memory of their own loved ones who'd died. "Bent" relates the story of a gay man (played by Richard Gere in Broadway) who tries to pass as a straight Jew in a camp in Dachau.

They couldn't've chosen someone better.

Has anyone seen the play? I saw the film with Clive Owen on TV a few weeks ago. It was pretty bad. In the film, Mick Jagger plays a guy who's a businessman by day, but a kind of drag queen-cum-hostess by night. He sings the song that Chris is writing the music for called "Streets Of Berlin". His portrayal was embarrassing and interesting in equal amounts.
