Vile Refusenik
Turned up an old issue of 'Observer Music Monthly' yesterday, 'The Gay Issue' from November 2006. Included among the delights was the lovely Rufus Wainwright picking his Top Ten Gay Icons. Mid-table was Morrissey: "Whether he's actually gay or not, he is the gay Elvis." Smashing! Sadly, he then goes on to compare him to Dean Martin and Prince...
Any takers for Morrissey as the gay Elvis?
Personally, in historical terms, I would have pegged Bowie as the gay Elvis, in terms of the seismic effect he had on rock and roll. Literally, I suppose Little Richard is the gay Elvis.
Or maybe the gay Elvis is just....Elvis?
