Morrissey interview in FasterLouder - "Cakes, Brexit and country music"

Cakes, Brexit, and country music: We chat with Morrissey - FasterLouder
by Lachlan Kanoniuk

...As he touches down in Australia, we sent Morrissey a range of questions. He dutifully responded. Enjoy.

Excerpt:

Not to frivolously conflate mortality and artistry – but do you see yourself as a survivor, both in health and as a musician with a long career?
I think it’s already happened if anyone took the trouble to chart my personal journey since The Smiths ended. But few do. Factually, I would trade the entire Smiths catalogue for World Peace Is None Of Your Business, but it’s also true that you are continually seen as however you were when you first appeared. That’s life. That’s death!

I am continually dismayed by his UKIP tendencies. "As for Brexit, the result was magnificent". Well it's a f***ing good job you don't have to live with the falling exchange rates, companies leaving in their droves, a huge rise in racial attacks and years more of uncertainty. Tit.

Give it time, Brexit is the best thing Britain ever did and I hope other countries follow suit. Globalism is a cancer on the world and is a one-world vehicle to make the rich richer and the poor poorer.

Well he places himself above it all...Like some potent leader rubbing his hands ...Probably thinks he's one, too...

...Voting is bad...but sometimes it's good... If people had refused to vote... he wouldn't be delighted today... He probably didn't bother himself... but the results are highly satisfactory... Luckily, the masses have voted against the Establigentsia...
Yada yada yada.

Isn't it magnificent, the voice of the people speaking up for a country that "no longer exists" and which he only visits to see his ma, whilst living elsewhere !
He and Deductible may be planning to live part of the year in the Cayman Islands now but, you know, he's overjoyed anyway.

He's the same distant / pretending to be involved dummy as ever, no need to get upset. The only risk he took was Alan Bennett saying no to a selfie, but I guess AB is lenient in his old days. Might pity him a bit, too...It's obvious Morrissey was never a full Euro. Shilling I mean.

Bennett thinks Brexit is a slap in the face of Europe. Well it's probably mostly a self-slap really.
Morrissey is a specialist on self-slapping with the difference that unlike his ex-country, and much like the village eejit, he doesn't and won't ever feel anything.

So yeah. Hardly worth being upset over or taking a selfie with, really...There are more interesting people.:)

Welp, I'm done.

Cheers Mozza, it's been a decent run.

He'd happily elevate World Peace is None of Your Business over the entire Smiths catalogue... OK mate

And as for Sky news pretty sure Rupert Murdoch runs Sky. I wouldn't call him a remoaner by any stretch of the imagination.

Trading WPINOYB for all of the Smiths stuff? That's utter nonsense. He's lost his mind!

Well from his perspective I could understand that. Those albums and songs can't possibly mean to him what they once did as he like everyone has changed a lot and probably doesn't have much in common with any of there lyrical sentiment anymore. The pining for a love unknown being a social outsider, I mean I doubt he cares to much about these subjects these days. The smiths songs are beautifully constructed and show a band eager to show what they can do like a talented group full of young talented people but I don't know that he's judging it from that stance anymore. He's probably less trying to impress with his rhyme scheme than he is trying to put forward the feeling meaning important to him from the place he finds himself now as a mature man today. that said while I don't rate it above the smiths album, well maybe the first as I rarely listen to that album anymore just certain sings, world peace was itself really musical and very very good lyrically. I loved songs like I'm not a man my joy Istanbul and kick the bride down the isle. I love the vocal melody on world peace the song

As to brexit I was on the remain side but at the same time the e.u did and still does have many structural problems that at the time they seemed little inclined to address. Watching the talks about new Russia sanctions was also revealing in how divided they are and what there ability is likely to be in accomplishing anything as a body. I don't know about companies leaving droves either as it relatively just happened and hasn't actually left yet but its success is going to depend on what happens next as there are many ways it could go. The currency will go all over the place until there's some idea of this direction but in the meantime at least exports will go up however marginally. Tourism as well

Thanks for posting, Uncle Skinny.

This is a very "him" interview, isn't it, designed to provoke. But amidst the swirls of controversy, he hits the mark. It's true that vegetarianism is (finally) fashionable...Mark Bittman among others has made millions on the trend (and good on him). And it's true that M will always be remembered as that quiffed, skinny, gladioli-swinging lad... which is why so many on the forum comment on his "dad bod" snarkily. Jake was no Basil Hallward (neither is SER), so Moz is going to age...and he's doing it exceptionally well. Was anyone really surprised by the "I'd trade it all for WPINOYB"? It's a typical, over the top, and delightful statement. Liked this a lot.

"England for the English, England for the English", as someone once sang.

He answers the questions and yet he tells us nothing. Its always a jibe at someone or some thing. Moz interviews are un-enlightening and dare I say it...boring? World Peace is a great album but to even hint that it is worth more than the entire Smiths catalogue is a joke at his own expense. I'd sooner read indepth interviews with Joyce or Rourke than that little snippet. Must have taken him all of 3 minutes to answer those questions. Maybe he has a Moz app that throws a few answers together.

let's not forget the thought provoking and excitingly probing questions that he's being asked of late.

Why once again do we have to have uncle knobheads own personal thoughts attached to the story??
Yes I agree with him that Brexit is a disaster, but I won't moan about a result that was gained democratically.

By the way, at what point does moz mention UKIP? The man is allowed an opinion just as much as you, me or Ken Dodd, wether you agree or not.

Monsieur Moz gives:bomb: to bad questions. He only wants good questions.:carpstreamer: with answers beforehand.

Agent Provocateur: 'Monsieur Moz, about this funny business with men while on the floor what might you say?'
Monsieur Moz respondez: :crystalball: 'see nothing in bloody magic ball'

Clouseau here, always attentive Merci

I have to say, I did not enjoy this interview at all. I'm tired of hearing him talk about Brexit, and I'm tired of hearing him whine over Clinton vs. Trump (especially because he acts like they're the same; they're NOT.)

And then ending it by saying he'd trade the Smiths catalogue for World Peace... insanity!

Just have to keep listening to his old, timeless tunes, and appreciate the beauty that past Moz gave to us.

Is it really a shock he prefer's songs he wrote 2 years ago over songs written 30 years ago, i mean WPINOYB probably has more meaning to him now than a lot of The Smiths songs.
