"Morrissey hasn’t turned right: our establishment has turned insane" - The Spectator (2 June, 2019)

By Charlie Nash.

Excerpt:

"Readers are advised to listen to Morrissey’s ‘Trouble Loves Me’ from the album Maladjusted (1997).

On Thursday, May 30, Morrissey was ‘cancelled’. According to the Guardian, a British newspaper fond of such decrees, fans now feel “betrayed” by the singer’s recent controversial and provocative statements, which have included support for Anne Marie Waters’ nationalist For Britain party.

“Morissey [sic], what happened?” the Guardian agonized on Twitter. But maybe they already know the answer. In just a decade, political correctness has obtained a stranglehold on Western culture. The provocateurs and counter-cultural icons of the late twentieth century have been replaced by commercially compromised ‘influencers’, and artists who are carefully selected by social censors.

If William Burroughs, Timothy Leary, or Anton LaVey were still alive, the current public would be under orders to despise them too."

"It’s his critics and censors who have changed, and who demand that we all dance to their tune."

Never going to happen.

EVER!!!

Reading "Burroughs" and "LaVey" in the same sentence makes less sense to me than reading "singers like Morrissey or Bon Jovi"...

If Burroughs was still alive he would rather die after reading that sentence!

look, I still think Moz supporting the people he does makes him a twat
but shit man, I forgive him, I will always forgive him, there is literally almost nothing he could do that I wouldn't absolve him of :o
more than many close real life friends or family even
also, doesn't hurt I'm digging lots of the new covers album :guitar:
and well, its Sunday, the day I love him most :blushing:

A great article that says exactly what I have been saying all along.
Morrissey has not changed, but the world has.

Quote from article:

"For our cultural establishment, Morrissey is a wanted man, but he’s still the same guy he was back in 1982. It’s his critics and censors who have changed, and who demand that we all dance to their tune."

So true. The only reason Moz wasn't commenting on Islam and immigration back in the 80s is because these things were not a threat to the character of Great Britain. Islam was virtually off the radar and immigration was very low in comparison to now. It was a different world then and there were different things worth criticizing. His 'controversial' comments of recent years are no surprise to anyone who understands him. He's an outspoken person but never in British history has this admirable trait been so forbidden.

The establishment are scared. They don't want people drawing attention to 'problematic' subjects, to uncomfortable truths. So this is even more reason to shout them aloud!

Yes, we all understand him. The Media cannot have any entertainers not following the agenda. Hence why he goes from record company to record company. None of the majors will have a star of his calibre being honest and delivering the quality of his music and social commentary.

Morrissey has a worldwide following of devoted fans who loyally follow his words. Because he does not meet their requirements he has to be attacked every way they can to dilute the following. Natural law always succeeds.

This isn’t difficult. You can listen to Morrissey’s own words and see his own actions and draw your own conclusions about whether he is misogynist and racist. If you believe he is, you’re likely correct. If you believe he is not, you most likely share in his beliefs or are blind, ignorant, or simple. Easy as that.

Oh has the world changed or have I changed ....

Before 9-11, the average person knew next to nothing about Islam other than that it was a religion that Arabs practiced, that they call God "Allah", that they don't eat pork, and that the main figure was some guy named Mohammad. There was really no need to know anymore than that.

Morrissey has most definitely and defiantly turned to the right. Shamelessly so.

Moz is a nationalist. People keep equating that with right wing but that's not really accurate. You can be liberal but still be a nationalist) I think his views on specific social and economically might fall on either side L or R wing depending on issue. Moz just wants England to not lose it's identity and become a Muslim country

The Uni i went to in the 90's was at least 50% Asian. One of my best mates was Asian. He was a great guy. Nobody talked about politics or Islam. There were obvious differences sure, like my friend was governed by his family and religion but we all got on. Before 9-11, before European Islamic terrorism and to a large extent the victim/divide/race-baiting culture we have now.....

You can be liberal but still be a nationalist( though admittedly you might find more self professed right wingers as nationalists than left). That's an outdated Cold War paradigm. Left/Right is no longer about capitalism vs socialism or about individualism vs collectivism. The new paradigm is about nationalism vs globalism.
Nationalism is a kind of collectivism and the globalist Left are, if anything, hyper-capitalists. Neither exactly fit in with the old paradigm.

Agree fully, you nailed it. Morrissey is fighting the globalization of England and that was the core idea of Brexit
