It's not hard to demonstrate that this woman has been demonized beyond all reason and out of all proprtion to her actual crime. She acted stupidly but she was no Hindley. Not the same ball park or league or 'sport' even.
Understand the issue here: she didn't know he'd done anything to anyone, he assured her that he hadn't. He then gave reasons why he might be being 'framed' for something (again). She believed him. She didn't lie to protect a murdering scumbag; she didn't believe he *was* one and - despite mine or your logical afterthoughts - she lied to get the police away from him/her/them. In retrospect all tabloid rags will say that she lied to protect a murdering scumbag but as a point of fact, from her own perspective and *at the time in question*, she didn't. It's a simple truth (and often they're the best kind).
