Has anyone here met They Might Be Giants or any stories?

They're pretty great. I really enjoy the depth of some of their lyrics balanced against the lightness of the music. I actually just bought tickets to go see them.

I went to see them in a pub in Islington in the 90's.
They were excellent.
Are they still going?

Big fan here of TMBG. Met them a number of years back when they released a children's book with CD. Great guys. I kept the book until I had children and now my kids are fans as well.

They just don't stop producing material and touring. Not unlike Moz in that respect.

Like g23 mentioned, they just kicked off a big tour with a new album.

I'd start with Flood. It's their most well known and beginner friendly.

It has a few of their bigger songs. Birdhouse, Particle Man, Istanbul.

caamt13 is right - begin with Flood! That album is their most accessible. Their other albums have gems sprinkled about, but Flood is one that you can listen to in its entirety.

If you have kids, they have about three albums that are just for them!

They are playing a TINY venue in Eugene 500 capacity. They're also playing in Portland, but I'd rather see them in a venue that's the equivalent to a living room. I've seen them 5 or 6 times over the last more years than I care to admit. (Let's say Flood was pretty new the first time.) They always put on a fun show that leaves me in a good mood for the next week or so.

Are you a They Might Be Giant? Dammit, Flansburgh, this is a Morrissey site, and I don't care how many darkened corridors you walk down!

Darkened Corridors... An odd reference g23. The last time I heard the reference (with respect to Moz) was when I engaged in an online discussion waaay-back in the day on the pre-interwebs Usenet alt.groups with another TMBG fan. That person argued that the song was sung in the tune of Moz. I didn't feel that way at the time but later, must admit it does sound like a poor-impression of Morrissey, both in tone and topic

I must ask how/why you came to use the reference?

The mental association was made in the way you thought. When I first heard Darkened Corridors, I thought it was funny, and it sounded like gentle fun being poked at Morrissey. I wouldn't say it was sung in the tune of as much as an approximation of the style of.

I saw them sometime in the late 1980's in a small club in the Midwest. I didn't talk to them, but we liked them so much we threw money at them, which seemed to confuse them. In the early 2000's they put out cds for kids one about numbers and one about the alphabet and they were excellent! My kids loved them!

Looks like the LA show is sold out.

I saw them in Boston in the 1990s and they were pretty good. My roommate loved them.

The first gig I ever went to was TMBG at Redcar Bowl in 1990. I stood next to John Flansburgh as he used the payphone in the foyer.
