coldplay

against all my better judgement and wishes, I really like them.

'Trouble' is a fantastically written song, as is most of Parachutes.

Most of the shoe gazing stuff (Embrace, Muse, Turin Brakes) I hate, Coldplay I really like.

Coldplay- Overplayed

I think they are top-notch but Virgin radio has saturated the market with them
(along with Alanis Morrissette and the woeful Travis and Starsailor)

If only I'd hear 'Yellow' and 'Trouble' occasionally and not every single time I drive anywhere. I would listen to Radio 2 but I've got a battered old Renault 5 with a factory stereo that does n't pick up FM properly.

I used to like Wogan in the morning.

crap radios

That Virgin Radio is shit.
My T reg Cheveete has only got MW/LW radio and the arial's bust

mmmm. I don't think they're the sort of band which will ever change anyone's life, nor restore their faith in the redemptive power of music. But they're an excellent band - I've seen them live twice, once at a small vanbue and once at a big venue, and they were really excellent. The last gig I saw, they played about 10 new songs, which sounded really good. A but noiser and less introspective.

Everyone slags off Starsailor, but as I type this I'm listening to a live version of "Tie Up My Hands", and James is screaming his heart out, and I'm thinking "this guy *means* it". Again, they'll never change my life, but there's something good there.

Coldplay are OK.. Nice fellas (on XFM playing their favourite songs on Sunday night)

..the best Coldplay songs are 'Brothers & Sisters' and 'Bigger, Faster, Stronger' (I think its called that .. can't be bothered to go downstairs and check).. However, they are pretty dull live I'd suggest (having witnessed a very unenthusiastic performance once!) .. Also, i'd recall a moment in france when my friend played the Tim Buckley album Grace.. and I was thinking 'hey this si Coldplay'.. well.. I thought it sounded very similar in parts (especially vocally).

Now, excuse my diverse mind, for some reason I am thinking of a great classic from the 80's.. 'Don't Talk To Me About LOve' by Altered Images.. anyone remember it? TMF, Grim.. you must do!

Re: wut?

...it means maudlin, indie type stuff.

Altered Images

...yesterdays shatter, tomorrows don't matter.... fab band...I loved their single 'Bring me Closer', too. Bought a 'best of' in Virgin recently for about a fiver.

Re: Altered Images

Oo yes! A bit one-dimensional, but they made some great singles. And they're Scottish! Well, Clare Grogan was.

Maudlin, shoe-gazing Moz and Smiths stuff

Clare was a hottie. Do you remember "Gregory's Girl"?

Re: Altered Images

Yes indeed, they were all Scottish!
I saw them at Warwick Uni in 1982 supported by a Flock of Seagulls. And I have the 12 inch Dont talk to me about Love!
