We have been watching recent comments regarding the state of the board with interest. It is fair to say that some posters are making it an unpleasant place to visit. While the facility exists to mass-delete posts, we have not taken this step thus far, because the maxims of free-speech and freedom of expression are central tenets of this general board.

All options are under review at the moment, including mass deletion and blocking IPs/ISPs.

We would hope that posters bear the headers of this general discussion board in mind, in particular, please try and keep your posts on-topic - this is a Morrissey/Smiths and related matters forum, not a forum for feuds or personal attacks.

The vast majority of people who come here come here for the Morrissy and related news and discussion, and some are being put off. Please help us maintain this board as an interesting and fun place for fans to come.

Many Thanks,

That sounds pretty reasonable to me.
I'm listening to Rank for the first time in over 5 years.
Fantastic.

so when david chooses not to delete messages saying that morrissey has aids, or libelous rumours that morrissey didn't pay his tour staff AND to state that he wants freedom of speech etc and will NOT delete them....he has changed his mind then??? or is he an absolute hypocrite?

Also, moderator, you choose to leave hughs/andreas messages here to clog up the board, but DELETE messages letting everyone know who andy ison is?? is that because hugh is your mate uncleskinny???

Finally, you have taken some action! I applaud your efforts. This place is NOT a *fun* place to visit any longer, and I am hoping you and your colleagues will rectify this unpleasant situation, even if it does mean blocking some IPs/ISPs! The way this *forum* is now, I can bet most of the people unhappy with this mess are going straight to Morrisseymusic.com - thank you.

perhaps if this forum operated similar to that on mozmusic where everyone had to register with a username and login in order to post some of these problems could be rectified.

I agree, hopefully this kind of crap isn't going on over there.

Somehow, I didn't think so.

I completely agree.

I'm a long time fan and have been visiting this site since it first went up. For the past couple of years my visits to the messageboard have dwindled, I now mainly only visit the front page. Simply put the messageboard itself is nothing more than an embarrassment. Not many people have the patience to trudge through thousands of nonsense posts to find the few sincere ones. I do understand not wanting to censor, but in situations where a slew of people are using the board as their own personal playground, I say censorship is needed. No one should be allowed to wreak havoc posting utterly pointless drivel time and again. The messageboard used to be a great place to visit when it first went up, please let's get it back to the way it used to be for the true fans who are actually interested in talking about Morrissey. Trolls don't belong on an artists messageboard, fans do.

Then again, who am I to talk.

I completely agree.

Well, I wasn't really agreeing on the moving over to Morrissey-music part. Should have left that bit off.

Re: A Message To The Moderator

This board will never changed unless we all make a serious stand to david and appeal for change. Single members have approached david in the past for an update of the board situation, with a 'situation is being reviewed' kind of answer. Start a petition for the board to change so that censorship can begin, as this cannot happen with the coding of this board. Discussion is helpful, but has not changed the plight of this board in the past few years.

Disgruntled former moderator.
