Andrew Overtoom writes: The Sunday night Silverlake Film Festival screening of "My Life With Morrissey" sold out days ahead of time, but an extra screening has been added due to popular demand. "My Life With Morrissey" will now also be screening at the Silverlake Film Festival on Tuesday, September 16 at the historic Vista theatre in Los Angeles. Also screening will be the companion Morrissey fan documentary "Real Life With Morrissey". Tickets are available through the Silverlake Film Festival web site: http://www.silverlakefilmfestival.com/ For those not residing in California there will be a screening of "My Life With Morrissey" at the Sidewalk Moving Pictures Festival in Birmingham AL on Saturday, September 14th. And while the bonus documentary looks amusing in a 'freak show' kind of way, I hope the film-makers interviewed some sensible (ie British) fans for a level-headed viewpoint on why the great man means so much to his fans.
Americans tend to completely miss the point of Morrissey's subtle genius; screaming his name when he passes them in the street, getting his name tattoed on their bodies and hanging around outside his house like stalkers. US Moz fans are no more interesting than Madonna or Backstreet Boys fans.
Why do Americans treat famous people as if they are deities? it's no wonder Moz always seems so bemused these days.
