The Guardian: Neil Morrissey on Morrissey - "Poor bloke" (March 14, 2024)

In a Guardian interview out today (I think), Neil Morrissey is asked 'Do you find it gratifying that you have had two UK No 1 singles, while Morrissey has had none?' He replies: 'Poor bloke. I do actually feel gratified. It was a turn in my career I never expected. I ended up vicariously on Top...

The Guardian - Morrissey on Brookside (piece on 'awful TV Cameos')

Oddly enough, for the last few hours, Morrissey has appeared in the headlines of two adjacent articles on the main section of the Guardian website. As well as the Michael Imperioli one, he's also in this one on cameos...

The two new musicians in the band

What's the feeling about the two new musicians? Are they enjoying themselves on stage? Do they do backing vocals? Even though Morrissey liked to make out (a little unconvincingly!) that he was one of the 'lads', I think having women in the band could turn out to be a really positive move. Be...

There are two new 'worst Morrissey songs of all time' (and one's on Bonfire)

According to Mozmar's excellent poll, The Kid's a Looker is no longer the worst Morrissey song of all time (having held that position for about 10 years). It's on a score of 4.59/10 and has been shunted down into the third worst by: Kerouac's Crack (4.41) and (the aptly named) You Don't Need...

Greg Davies (UK actor/comedian) on Suedehead (the song he wishes he'd written) and Morrissey's current 'beliefs' (April 21, 2023)

Don't know if this has done the rounds yet but it appeared in the NME fairly recently. https://www.nme.com/features/tv-interviews/greg-davies-soundtrack-of-my-life-3433370 The song I wish I’d written Morrissey – ‘Suedehead’ “When the song was released [in 1988], I was in a turbulent teenage...

Be good to see how people's opinions of this one compare to 'Without Music'.

What do you think of the new song, 'Without Music The World Dies'?

I've done this 5-scale thing before with new songs, defining what each level means. Hopefully makes for useful comparisons. Without Music The World Dies was co-written with Gustavo Manzur.

Simon Bird (Inbetweeners) 'can no longer listen to' Morrissey (January 27, 2023)

“I refuse to give up on The Smiths, but the cognitive dissonance that’s required to listen to Morrissey now is too much. It’s a shame because it’s an incredible song.” The song is Now My Heart is Full. www.nme.com/features/tv-interviews/simon-bird-soundtrack-of-my-life-3388152

    Question about thread removal

Nope, no-one will really have given a shit about the latest diatribe. It was a) pretty weak and b) not picked up on by the main media outlets. The mass fan desertion happened when Morrissey said stupid stuff (about Farage, For Britain, Tommy Robinson etc) or wore the For Britain badge, and his...

'Hit Town' (2016) - The Perfect English Weather. Song about being a Morrissey fan; mentions several songs, the cancelling of shows, Autobiography etc.

I've been meaning to post this for yonks. It's by a group called Perfect English Weather who are the singer and songwriter from late 80's Brighton-based indie band The Popguns. The singer, Wendy, was a pretty big Morrissey fan and used to perform in her Kill Uncle t-shirt. They had quite a few...

The Guardian: Stewart Lee's 'Honest Playlist' - 'can no longer listen to' Morrissey (September 5, 2022)

Like Reverend Richard Coles a few months ago, Stewart Lee has nominated Morrissey for the artist/song he can no longer listen to in a Guardian questionnaire, citing his 'drift to the far right'. www.theguardian.com/music/2022/sep/05/stewart-lee-honest-playlist It's a bit disappointing that...

Morten Harket on meeting Morrissey and covering The Sun Always Shines (new NME interview - September 2, 2022)

At a 2004 gig in Norway, which musician introduced himself as ‘Morten’ before singing his own, lyrically-altered snippet of A-ha’s ‘The Sun Always Shines on T.V.’? MH: “The main guy who’s been vocal about A-ha is obviously Chris Martin from Coldplay, but that’s not who you’re looking for here?”...

Morrissey and Sam Rayner on the Bonfire songs we've yet to hear...

I've just been looking at last year's interview. It appears a lot of the supposed highlights are songs we've yet to hear. Most of these quotes are Sam's. - 'Ha Ha Harlem' is the song easiest to imagine live. It has a lot of lyrics and a lot of musical changes. You also use very high falsetto. I...

    Morrissey and Miley Cyrus's collaboration

Surely a subject that deserves its own thread? It seems Miley C has provided backing vocals on "I am Veronica" as you can apparently hear her recorded voice at the recent live shows (although I wouldn't have spotted it). Perhaps not a massive surprise as they've been photographed hanging out...

Which new Morrissey songs would you most like to hear in the upcoming 2022 tour?

Sounds like we'll be hearing at least one new song played live very shortly. A little hard to judge with just a snippet of 'Veronica' and the titles to go on, but in my experience an interesting song title usually means an interesting song...
