According to the Swedish distributor Showtime, the new Morrissey album will be in stores before Christmas 2003, hopefully early in November!!

Hopefully this is not just a rumour......

Showtime denies the rumoured release
I contacted Showtime Distribution and asked about the rumoured christmas/November release. I received the following reply (my translation):

"Nothing is settled, except that negotiations are going on. From what I understand, they have proceeded pretty far."

Hej Peter,
Inget är klart mer än att förhandlingar pågår som vad jag förstår framskridigt ganska långt.

I think that makes a lot more sense...he hasn't even started yet!

  • It would be wonderful to have a new Morrissey album by Christmas. But didn`t someone say that they aren`t recording until October?Wouldn`t that make a November or December release pretty much impossible?

  • Took about three months, so even if Morrissey and the lads (with the drummer not even confirmed, it seems) started right now, it'd be done for Christmas, but then it takes another 2-3 months for mastering, packaging, etc....early 2004 seems right.

And no offence Sweden, but why would you be the first to know?

  • this is from the Sanctuary website when Moz first signed:

"The deal was signed on the 20th of May and Morrissey will begin recording his first album since 1997's Maladjusted immediately. "

If the wheels did start turning 'immediately' on May 20th then a late November release wouldn't be impossible...

    does seem improbable though...

  • I have made a contact at Sanctuary Records in New York.

She & I exchange emails every so often. According to her, nothing is scheduled for release in 2003, but they will have a "full plate" of Moz come 2004.

Amazing that David posted this, considering I forwarded the Sanctuary email to him in confidence.

  • It wouldn't be SO extrordinary to see a single before Christmas while they are polishing the rest of the album for the new year. All two minutes and thirty seconds of "Irish Blood...", for example, in nicely packaged mastered kickass form doesn't seem too much to hope for, does it?

  • Moz's manager (don't know who he is this week, though), should arrange for some "pick-me-ups" to be delivered to the studio while the boys are recording.

With this Columbian marching powder inside them, they'll steam through and finish the album in record time (even though the guitars may sound like Be Here Now....oh dear)

                Q: Have you taken Ecstacy?

A: "Yes I have. I've taken it a couple of times. The first time I took it was the modt astonishing moment of my life. Bacause-and I don't want to sound truly pathetic-I looked in the mirror and saw somebody very, very attractive. Now, of course, this was the delusion of the drug, and it wears off. But it was astonishing for that hour, or for however long it was, to look in the mirror and really, really like what came back at me. Now even though I had that wonderful experience, and it was a solitary experience-there was nobody else present-I'm not actually interested in drugs of any kind. I'm not prudish, I don't mind if other people take them, but it's not for me. I just don't have the interest."

              • At one point in my life I was a Mod...college crew cut, original Ben Sherman shirts, tonic/mohair suits, Italian loafers...the whole thing.

On a Saturday night my friend Chris and I used to venture into Caesars...a grotty niteKlub in order to preen, prance and pose. The music was terrible, all handbag house...but in our minds we saw Jimmy in Quadrophenia dancing to "Green Onions" and that got us through.

En route to the Klub one shiny, shimmery, Saturday night we met someone that Chris knew and I didn't. Chris had a quick word with him and then said that we needed to accompany him somewhere...the somewhere turned out to be a dirty lock up behind a cafe on the High Street. Once inside this chap chopped out a couple of lines of speed, rolled up a five pound note and took his hit...Chris follwed him.

I was about 21 at this point and Ihad never seen anyone take drugs before...except in the movies, but this wasn't the movies...this was a grotty garage, not a swanky penthouse in Manhattan, it was five pound note, not a hundred dollar bill and this chap had on te most awful trainers one could imagine...it was all wrong.

I looked at my friend...I looked at the snow white particles lying on an oil stained worktop, like the worlds saddest snowflakes...then I thought about the contrast between how drugs are "meant" to be and the reality I was facing.

As I walked out of the garage and started the long walk home...alone, I heard Chris call me. I ignored him. The whole thing was so tatty, so ugly and so crude that I couldn't have anything to do with it.

My argument against drugs then is based purely ont he aesthetics...that an the fact that everyone I have ever encountered "under the influence" has been utterly repellant in almost every sense.

I just couldn't face a Morrissey like that.
