A Sighting! Yesterday, Tuesday 14th October in Reading, Berkshire (about 30 miles west of London), I saw the Moz strolling down the main drag - Broad Street! Don't think me mad cos he's been here before at a recording studio just nearby. It's called Outside Studios where he recorded some late 80's stuff including Ouija Board, Ouija Board. I'm still trembling with excitement and I'm 39 years old!

A German hifi and audiovideo magazine called AUDIO features a CD on the cover of the current November issue, promoted by Harman/Kardon and EMI and including a remastered version of "Everyday Is Like Sunday" by Morrissey.

The 8 track CD features "Platinum Pop" titles by artists who will forever be "far beyond todays chart music" as chosen by chief editor L. Brandt. Other artists are Kate Bush, Roxy Music, The Stranglers and Shirley Bassey.

There's also an 4-page cover story with a nice picture of young Morrissey by L. Watson, and a review of some EMI CD box sets including Morrissey's CD Singles '88-`99 - described as "ideal for grey November days".

Considering that Morrissey is not really existing in the German media this is almost sensational. But on the other hand it's also a hifi magazine for grown-ups...

Excuse-me if I make mistakes, but I speak french. In the french magazine " MAGIC! " of october 2003, there is an interview of the group HERMAN DUNE. " There is a light that never goes out" is one of their favorite songs. David-Ivar says : " For André and me, it was impossible to not put a song of Morrissey. That is the biggest influence on the writing of our songs. André says : " we have learned English because we listen to the Smiths. " David-Ivar : I liked that my children learned at the school a song of Morrissey. He is in music what is the most elevated (the best) in what I can image of the writing. " (in French : il est en musique ce qu'il y a de plus élevé possible dans ce que je peux m'imaginer de l'écriture.")

October 20, 2003 - Wireless Flash
From Spongebob To Smiths (link)

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- The folks who work on the animated series, "Spongebob Squarepants," have some strange ways of occupying their spare time -- like stalking the former lead singer of the 1980s band, The Smiths.
According to Spongebob animation director Andrew Overtoom, one staff member is such a big Morrissey fan that she still brags about the time she accidentally spilled a drink on the singer in a Los Angeles bar.

Overtoom was so inspired by the woman's story that he turned it into a live-action black comedy, "My Life With Morrissey," that is a long way off from "Spongebob's" whimsy.

Still, the connection is closer than people realize. Overtoom says many of "Spongebob's" cast and crew worked on his film at times when they were supposed to be working on the cartoon.

"My Life With Morrissey" hits DVD Oct. 28 but Overtoom will be pretty busy. He starts work on the "Spongebob Squarepants" movie today (Oct. 20) and expects to be busy until next June.

I e-mailed the people who works with Musikbyrån earlier today to ask when they were gonna screen the interviews with all former members of The Smiths since I noticed on their homepage that The Smiths interviews weren't gonna be sreened next week which were the plans from the beginning.

I got the answer that they had postponed it to the 5 th of November instead.

The full answer was this:

Hej.

Det blev ändrade planer för Smiths-intervjeurna.
Det är onsdag 5 november som gäller.

Big Brother UK winner quotes Morrissey
Cameron Stout, the winner of this year's Big Brother UK, quoted Moz in his column in Scottish national newspaper The Sunday Post.

The 32-year-old fish trader from Orkney, Scotland, who happpens to be a self-confessed virgin, was talking about the trappings of his new-found fame and said "I remember Morrissey once singing 'Fame, fame, fatal fame. It can play hideous tricks with the brain'. Well, I hope it doesn't play any tricks with me..."

The piece appeared on page 10 in the October 19 edition.

Morrissey theme on "Never Mind the Buzzcocks"
Morrissey was a recurring theme on British pop TV quiz 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks' tonight (Tues 20th). Compere Mark Lamarr had a list of things that Morrissey hates and revealed about 40 pages of paper which started with Elton John, meat eaters etc and ended with 'The YMCA Dance'! He read from the list at every spare moment in the show including the closing credits. It was actually quite funny!

Roy Keane (Manchester United footballer, Irish legend) appeared on the Eamonn Dunphy show in Ireland last Friday night and I must admit my heart skipped a beat as our very own Moz could be heard belting out "Roy's Keen" as Roy Keane himself was introduced.
