Talking of drummers
Morrisseys drummer from his last tour will not be working on this album, instead he's asked drummer Spike back, who was sacked from the tour before the last.

The launch issue of magazine "The London News Review" has a feature which prints the answers to an interview with Chrissie Hynde without printing the questions. The first answer is as follows:

"Someone told me that Morrissey said when I enter a room I enter it as a man and a woman. But he's a poet so I'm not quite sure what he meant."

In the September 17, 2003 issue of the Onion there is an interview with Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes and Desaparecidos, two bands who share the Saddle Creek label with Rilo Kiley and Cursive. (Bright Eyes made the SHORTLIST 2003 along with Black Keys, Cat Power, Cody Chestnutt, Floetry, Interpol, Damien Rice, Sigur Ros, The Streets and Yeah Yeah Yeahs). In the Onion interview Conor tips the hat to the Smiths:

"The first music I ever got into was the '80s alternative bands that my brother listened to, like The Cure and The Smiths and R.E.M. and Fugazi. I can remember specifically saying The Cure was my favorite band back in second grade. Just because I thought my older brother was really cool."

In the October issue of GQ Magazine (the one with The Rock on the cover), they've got a music section, and interspersed throughout are a few columns where musicians detail their favourite 'mix tapes.' One of the musicians is alt.country singer Neko Case. Her tape includes songs like The Everly Brothers' "I Don't Want To Love You," Loretta Lynn's "Deep As Your Pocket," The Kinks' "Shangri-La," and Morrissey's "Speedway."

In her intro to the song list, Neko says, "I call this the 'Get Me as Far Away from These Times as Possible' mix. I made it for driving across Texas on the I-10. Some of the songs make me cry. Not clutching-my-blanket-in-the-fetal-position crying but ohooh-this-song-is-so-good-crying. I'd bring Roger Miller on the trip if I could. I have a huge posthumous crush on Roger. And I love Morrissey. He's invited. Anytime. We'd all get along really well."

On the DVD release of the Girl skateboard video "Yeah, Right", there's a bonus section with a Keenan Milton memorial part on it. "Sunny" is played at the end when old photos of Keenan and his friends are shown. For those who don't know who Keenan Milton was, he was a professional skateboarder who rode for Chocolate skateboards and passed away in 2001.

On BRITTA's album you can find a song titled "Wie ein Smith-song" (yes, I heard it's artistic freedom that the s is missing).

I've only heard the song on the radio once and can't find the lyrics online anywhere. Basically there was described how life can sometimes be just "like a smith-song".
Full stop.
