Post by Bartok on Burned Downed Days discussion board

This link should take you to a thread on a Psychedelic Furs fansite (Burned Downed Days). It was, apparently, started by Furs mainman Richard Butler himself (he always posts under "Bartok", though has more than just 3 posts to his name....) Check out the sad knee-trembling responses (except for mine). Who needs a Smiths revival anyway? And like it's really gonna happen...... Why would Mozz piss away his newfound status? No chance. The only good thing about bands reforming: the Psychedelic Furs themselves! Currently in violently great form. Superb.

Excerpt from the post:
"I don't know it'll happen for a fact but one of the KROQ. people told me that the Smiths are performing at next years festival.....................with Billy Idol also slated."

In an interview in Belgian magazine "HUMO" the topic of "humorous" artists comes up and when the interviewer asks Randy Newman "What about Morrissey, who recently came to live in your neighbourhood..." Newman replies :"I first heard Morrissey eight years ago, when my oldest son forced me to listen to his records. Great stuff. Without a doubt one of the best lyricists in the history of popular music. I haven't met him yet, no, but that doesn't seem like a good idea. Hey, you're a cynic too, let's do lunch ! I've got enough problems..."
So there... Randy pleased the Belgian press...and me...

This week's NME (24th September) has featured in their Why I love . . . section a charming tribute to Morrissey from young Dustin Hawthorne from Hot Hot Heat. There is a typical photo of Mozza in his 80's hey-day and a little 'What to buy' guide for new fans (including: Hatful of Hollow, The Queen is Dead and Your Arsenal). The reasons why Dustin loves Mozza are numerous and are pretty much the same reasons why we love him. It's a nice little tribute, showing that NME are truly desperate to get back in Morrissey's good books.

By the way I am doing my Media dissertation on the represenation on Morrissey, so any tips or opinions would be much appreciated: [email protected]

Anyone check out Jimmy Kimmel Live last night. Lead singer of Brand New had "Hi Moz" in electrical tape on his guitar. Of course JK is filmed in L.A. I guess trying to get Moz's attention... If you check out Brand New's Cd "Deja Entendu" the band has a section in the back telling fans who they listen to and The Smiths are mentioned. Some of their songs do have a Moz-sounding lead vocal especially their first single, I believe it is "The quiet things that no one ever knows"

We do miss you Moz!! Goodnight and Thank you...

Wonder how Morrissey would feel about this.

Just an update on the Swedish Moz fan, who was held in custody, suspected of the murder of the Foreign minister Anna Lindh: he is now released, cleared of any suspicion.

John also writes:

I think its worth noting, considering your item, that the so-called moz fan arrested in Lindh's murder in sweden has been released and a new suspect arrested (link to story at Sky news).

Note story says previous suspect was released. I read more about this earlier this week in newspapers but i just found this as a reference for you. But OUR MAN is out of jail. LOL

Apologies if this is old news, but:

"Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" is named after a Smiths song, but there are no Smiths songs on the CD! Ha! How punk is that, punkboy?

If you live in New York and you've always fantasized about belting out a Smiths/Moz tune in front of an audience, this is your chance! Come sing 'How Soon Is Now?' or 'The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get' and show the world how much you love your idol. It is absolutely free; no cover to get in and no charge to sing! There are lots of other good songs, too, including Siouxsie, Cure, Depeche Mode, etc.

It's this Friday, September 26, 10:00pm at the Pourhouse in Williamsburg (corner of Metropolitan and Humboldt). It's really easy to get to, just take the L train to Graham Ave. and walk east one block.
