How Does It Feel To Be Loved?, the website devoted (largely) to British indie-ish music of the '80s and '90s(-ish), has some great interviews, most recently one with Tony Wilson about signing - or not signing - The Smiths. It's what you'd expect. Excerpt:

Is it true that Morrissey pulled music from the '24 Hour Party People'?

"I don't know. I've no idea. It wouldn't surprise me one little bit because he's a miserable git. Also, he would have broken my heart. He's a very talented boy, but he's actually one of the most miserable. . . he's actually, let's be really honest about it, he's actually a nasty person, as a human being. As was John Lennon. Because he treats good human beings who help him - this isn't me, I've never helped him, I'm fond of him because I'm fond of his talent and his creativity - he treats excellent good human beings who try to help him like pieces of dog dirt. He tramples on them. It's not his fault, he's just a terribly unpleasant human being, in terms of pure human values, he is not a nice person."

Johnny Marr appeared on the Sky Sports Saturday morning football TV show 'Soccer AM', 5th April. He was being asked about the possibility of reunions of certain bands, ie. he said that The Stone Roses had a good 60% chance of re-forming and ofcourse the presenter asked him what percentage for The Smiths to which Johnny replied, "A big whopping 0.5%" to which the presenter screamed, "So there is a chance!!!"

According to posts on Grant Lee Phillips message board at GrantLeePhillips.com, Grant has been covering "Everyday is Like Sunday," most recently in Philadelphia on 4/1. That KILLS me! Grant is incredible, and I'm sure his take on "Sunday" is, too. He's also been playing some Echo and the Bunnymen covers...

Well-respected Baseball writer/ analyst for the Boston Globe and ESPN gives the Boston Red Sox bullpen their very own Smiths theme song.

Excerpt:

Boston's bullpen blew the opening game when Alan Embree and Chad Fox coughed up a 4-1 ninth-inning lead. The Red Sox lost the fifth game when Fox walked in the winning run and in between were twice saved by a throw to the plate to avoid another loss and blown save. In its first five games, the much-publicized Committee allowed 17 earned runs in 24 innings and was 0-for-3 in save opportunities.

The Smiths' "Panic" may be playing on every FM station from Bangor to Block Island and supermarket register clerks know that there are eight active relievers with more career saves than the combined 187 career saves of The Committee.
